No, we don't accept this because we don't accept annecdotal evidence. Show us data, show us observation, show us medical records, show us death certificates....

As for your wife, I'm sorry she is suffering so and if you had taken in all I wrote you would see that I believe most sickness is not a punishment from God, and since you seem to missed it I'll repeat it , God will be with those who suffer if they will allow Him to. Of coarse you can't possibly understand this because you reject Him. I also suffer from pain every day and am disabled because of it and I do not believe God gave me the pain as a punishment, it came through many years of hard work.

Oh yea thats right, you deserve the pain because, as a human being, you are inherently evil.

There was no winning to it, you have a perverted mind to believe anyone would claim a victory from others suffering, even if they brought it on themselves. We prayed they would make things right with God, they didn't and found them selves in punishment, not because we prayed but because they wouldn't repent of the wrong they had done to God's church.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I'm not going to write out the entire event and give every detail, that would encompass a small book, this thing happened over a two year period. The very few people who died were very old, old enough you would expect them to pass away at any time. I know you'll never accept this because you would have to question what you do not believe. I'm not saying that you didn't know them; that's entirely within reason. I'm saying that we must take your word for it that you knew which ones were "good" or "bad" people. I'm guessing that if you polled the people who left, you would not get a clear consensus on who was good/bad, because those are traits that can be defined and read very differently.
The second is the more pertinent point, to me. If we are considering that this might have been the hand of god in action, then it seems to me that there should have been a clear difference in the fate of the people involved. Otherwise it seems as if the hand of god in action is not much different than the normal random occurrence of sickness in a group of people over a period of time.
As for your last sentence, this discussion is an example of me questioning what I do not believe. I don't believe that god involved himself in the split of a congregation by making most of the "bad" people and only a few of the "good" people ill. It just doesn't seem like there was anything abnormal about what happened, that would make me think some supernatural influence would need to be accounted for.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Right, Yahweh allows the Catholic church to prosper for centuries -- in spite of you Baptists howling about how they are false Christians, apostates, idolaters, and false teachers -- but his mighty wrath is brought down on your little shit-kicker parish because, of course, the little dramas of GC and his merry band of yokels is that damned important.
Yeah, I'm buying that.

Who else could? Not questioning authority figures is basically a beeline for abuses of that same authority, especially if that authority you're not allowed to question imbues itself with the right to decide what is and isn't righteous and just; you're basically saying that god says he's righteous and just, and god says not to question god, so... he must be righteous and just, because you can't question him.
Besides, are you actually saying that what those people did, whatever social engineering went on at that church, it was enough to earn a death sentence?

You seem to have missed my point too, which is that as someone who lives in close proximity to a person suffering from chronic disease I understand both the toll it takes on that person, and on the people who love them. You say god doesn't inflict every instance of disease, but you do believe he inflicted some specific instances in your life, and from my position that's an absolutely monstrous thing to do, partly because nothing that went on in that church could possibly justify this kind of "punishment," and partly because illness doesn't just affect the people who are ill, it also hurts their families, meaning that god is also punishing the innocent people around the "guilty" party. That's inexcusable collateral damage.

You are a moron - Hosea has nothing to do with the question.

No, this is clearly voodoo. Have you checked for dead animals around the church? Particularly look for dead pigeons or cats with pigeon feathers tied to them with colored string.
Your brand of crazy isn't the only kind.

It always shocks me, how willing you christians are to advocate for courses of action that will directly lead to the death of children.
Not to mention the blatant hypocrisy of calling this a "big brother" situation while simultaneously approving of government interference in other sectors of life, such as who should be able to marry whom. Which is it? Is government interference bad, or good? And for that matter, what's your rationale for calling the specific instance you use as an example bad?

How is this a "big brother" situation? Have you even read 1984? Probably not, or you might have seen the parallel between doublethinking and religious thinking.
How is trying to keep someone alive a bad thing?
