Modern christianity is founded on cherry picking of scripture, assigning blame to 'demons' instead of a personal faltering of a religion practiced intermittently, and without vim vigor and verve would seem to be expected.

Modern christers don't scourge themselves anymore, IIRC, Martin Luther (Lutheran, not civil rights one, for our lurkers in Rio Linda) scourged himself quite a bit, and still felt sinful. That's the kind of religion I think we should be seeing.
