Logical contradictions?

RE: Logical contradictions?
Quote:Er, I think you'll find they did.

The ancient Egyptians believed that their Pharaoh was the living embodiment of god on earth. A divine being.
Same as the Emperor in feudal Japan. They believed he was a divine being.
Same horse shit Christians spout about jesus.

Quote:They no longer practice these beliefs that is why they have been dismissed.
Oh dear! And Protestants don't practice the beliefs of Catholicism and orthodox Christianity and before that the practices of Judaism, as the earliest Christians were just an ultra orthodox Jewish sect. Religions change and die all the time just like other natural phenomena. Just because Christianity isn't dead yet doesn't mean it is true. The fastest growing religion is islam does that make it true?

It's never been a race, steady as she goes, many down through the ages have predicted the end of christianity but we are still here in all our imperfection, we are here by the hundreds of millions and going no where because we are the bride of Christ and have His undivided attention and protection.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

It certainly is a slow death.

Seymour's revival reached 200 million at least, 30 years after Darwin (unintentionally) started his religion, and some intellectual elitists in Denmark or something said God was absolutley positively dead this time.

But then Seymour decided he wanted stuff the apostles were getting, and decided to run his meetings per 1 Corinthians, something nobody had done with such success for a hundred years. The best is yet to come. The Catholics and a handful of ignorant Protestants just recently stopped knocking off heaven-bound heretics.

How some militant atheists must hate religious freedom.

True, but it is happening. More and more people are starting to see that its just lies and superstition.
The sooner Christianity dies the better.

Could someone translate this into English please? I don’t speak Christian psychobabble. I have no idea what he’s talking about!

Why would we? The less control the church has the lower the chances of people being indoctrinated into this bollocks.

One of the reason I'm happy I live in the UK. I can be openly atheist and nobody thinks any less or any more of me because of that.

Stick to the point. You dismiss egyption religion because it is no longer practiced (incidentally it is by some new agists) and then ignore the fact that you no longer follow early Christian practices (including those followed by the Jew Jesus). Of course you could also say that jesus' practices were invalid and you reasoning would at least be consistent.

My response was to the statement underlined. As for protestants not practicing as the catholics do well DUHHhhh. Why would they each see some things differently and yes some are major points, we both believe in Christ and His ability to save and that is a major point all true christians believe.
There is a commonality that the nation of Israel and the church share and that is God the creator of the universe. We also share the belief of the Messiah each sees it differently but still the same being. We share the OT and believe it's the Word of God. We do share a lot of the ancient christian practices, they may look some what different but that has to do with the times at hand, in reality they are the same and serve the same purpose they just have a different look.
Jesus never practiced a religion that would be utterly silly and He Himself is not a religion He is God so why would He worship Himself. The only beings I know who worship themselves are human beings, how noble we believe we are.
As for the Eygptian religions I did not dismiss them I said they had been dismissed and long before I was born and the same goes for the others you mentioned though the Emperor of Japan was quite recent.

Godschild; you tie yourself up in so many knots. Either you dismiss religions because they are no longer practised or you don't. If you do then you have to account for why you do not dismiss all the evolutionary dead ends of Christianity including the original Jewish sect. If you do not dismiss religions on this basis then you have to explain why the 1000s of dead gods and their religions aren't equally as valid. Which is it?

RE: Logical contradictions?
I'll take a stab.

Jesus was fully God, but God limiting himself to a human frame. Whilst he was God, and fully able to act like God, he chose to be fully human in that he only exhibited human traits: except that he did nothing to limit his own humanity as we do in not realising our full potential.

Um, ancient Egyptian religion (and other pagan religions) were suppressed by angry xtian thugs. I know you don't like to hear that but someone has to tell you the truth.

Quote:Many now believe that Christianity became the dominant religion of the Empire through the evangelical efforts of the early church during the fourth century CE. The evidence seems to show that this is not true; "The Greek-Roman world was not...converted to a new religion, but compelled to embrace it." The Emperor Theodosian issued a series of decrees or rescripts in the years 341, 345, 356, 381, 383, 386 and 391 CE. They effect of these orders was to "suppress all rival religions, order the closing of the temples, and impose fines, confiscation, imprisonment or death upon any who cling to the older [Pagan] religions." 2 The period of relative religious tolerance in the Roman Empire ended as Pagan temples were seized and converted to Christian use or destroyed. Priests and Priestesses were exiled or killed. Christianity and Judaism became the only permitted religions. In Spain, bishop Priscillian, who taught some Gnostic beliefs was the first person to be condemned as a heretic and executed by his fellow Christians on religious grounds. The church used the power of the state to begin programs to oppress, exile or exterminate both Pagans and Gnostic Christians. By the end of the century, Pagan temples had been either destroyed or recycled for Christian use. Pagan worship became punishable by death. But government toleration was not without its cost. The Emperor Constantine and later political rulers demanded a major say in the running of the church and in decisions on its beliefs.

The Jews still practice their religion and Christianity is still alive and well. The false sects of christianity have for the most part died out and the reason is simple they did not stand up to the scrutiny of Gods Word. As for all those dead gods how is it you think that they can have any validity against the living God of creation and redeemtion. No knots in my thinking or beliefs.
