Mr Deity's response to Chapel Hill.......

I really don't understand this response. What part do you disagree with? That violence doesn't solve anything? That atheists are actively distancing themselves from the shooter because they think what he did was atrocious? That everyone should be free to worship or believe as they would like, but no one has the right to get violent over it?

You just get more and more vile, don't you? Sometimes when I see your user name, I wish I wasn't a mod so I could put you on ignore. You make my skin crawl.

Well, then perhaps you should temper your approach next time. Hopping into a discussion and saying nothing but, "Just for the record the shooter described himself as a gun toting atheist" reeks of a petty eagerness to rub people's noses in this fact.

I hope that was a gut reaction that you made before putting your brain into gear. There is no doubt that there is some hard-wiring of our brain and that sometimes it is contrary to logic and enlightened thinking. We must use intellect to overcome that.

Do you really wish 1000 years of torture on the perpetrator? What good would come of that? Does a perpetrator's pain really make things better for his/her victims? What does it say about the person who would inflict such a punishment?

I said it out of anger. I don't really mean it though.

He didn't even watch the video. He just assumed it was a Mr. Diety parody about the shootings. Par for the vapid, vacuous, insipid course.

And how many people in the south do you think would describe themselves as 'gun totin' Christians?' If any of those people committed murder would their religion automatically have anything to do with their motive?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

But Christianity is clean of all things. Christianity is a good worldwide cult. Battle of the crusades? Not christian. Bombing of abortion clinics? Not christian. Denying the gay community rights in America and then playing the victim card screaming persecution when we call them out on bigotry? These aren't true Christians. I think you keep forgetting that.
