If your god really did make a pit of fire to send everyone he didn't like to be tortured for eternity, there's nothing respectable about him.

So, there will still be torture just not the forever kind?

More likely, they have this thing called empathy. They can't imagine God doing anything as evil as sending someone to a place where they are eternally tortured. Even we fallen humans are better than that.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

That's how I interpret it.

You think I deserve to be tortured for using the brain God gave me, in the best way I can?

Yes, because you didn't use it in the way I liked it.

You're goddamned straight I've got no respect for the object of your fetish.

The very same verse you're referencing has Jesus calling hell "the eternal fire". That's a mighty fine cherry-picker you've got there.
Aren't you worried about directly contradicting the god you claim to worship?

No, because you are forgiving and are not in the business of rejecting things for fear or for ego, for putting your personal biases and security over the truth.
So you are doing it the right way. I agree if there is a God who is perfect in design, then creating secular minds is for a reason and serves good purpose when used properly.
To question and discern what is consistent and what is not, not for the purpose of rejecting but for purposes of understanding and appreciating.
