Personally, I put that down to a personality flaw among believers.

They are stupid.

Pretty sure you're not smarter than the average theist. Do you even have a GED?

Do you have anything relevant to the subject of the thread to say?  Like an explanation for why God would need scouts to tell him what is going on in Sodom and Gomorrah?  Is God a clueless moron, far from being omniscient?  Or why Lot is supposedly a good man (2 Peter 2:7-8), when he is someone who would turn his daughters out to a mob to be gang raped (Genesis 19)?  Is that something a good man would do?  Is that your idea of goodness?  It is the Bible's idea of goodness.  Do you have anything relevant to say to this?

Do you seriously think that angels could not defend themselves against the mob?

You should say something relevant to a thread, or you should stay out of it.  Really, though, I would like to see what you have to say about the issues of the opening post, and the questions I have asked in this post.  Otherwise, we will be thinking how morally bankrupt your religion is, as it certainly seems that way from looking at what is claimed in the Bible.

"A wise man ... proportions his belief to the evidence."

Was going to say something about it being very much an Ancient Greek motif (Biblical scholars don't believe homosexuality was the actual sin, but more along the lines of a lack of hospitality) in terms of religious parable, but got distracted by the hypocrisy of a fool.

Your morals likely follow the morals set by the Bible, so not sure you are exactly correct in calling my faith morally bankrupt unless you want to turn around and call your morality bankrupt as well.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

I certainly don't think you should stone homosexuals to death, that women are inferior to men, or that apostates should be killed.

I'll take my morality over the one suggested by the Bible, thank you.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

You want to be taken serious, you need to get though the first grade. Most ridiculous cap I've ever seen.

If the city was so dangerous, why could Lot it at the city's gate unharmed?

Were there no children or babies in the city when god couldn't find ten righteous people?

Why the hell didn't the angels(or god) appear in Lot's home? God talked to Abraham in person, why couldn't he just appear to Lot or poof the family out of the city without the crazy running for the hills?

Why didn't god let Lot's daughters know that the world wouldn't be ending? Where did the wine come from in the cave?  Did Lot and his daughters carry supplies with them? After the first time, being raped, why didn't Lot decide that he shouldn't trust his daughters? It probably took more than one time to get the girls' pregnant so they were probably each having sex multiple times with dad.

Quote:Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my life will be saved!” 21 He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. 22 Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.[a]

Why didn't they remain in Zoar and not go to the cave? Did god lie and destroy that city also? Couldn't they have taken a couple of strapping young men to satisfy Lot's daughters? Most people don't read the bible so they don't realize that before the cave, Lot's family went to a city that god was supposed to keep safe.

It's god's fault for making angels so sexy.

What a ridiculous story. I would advise theists to try and call this a metaphor rather than justify such a ridiculous series of events. God does not come off good here. And the lesson is not "gays are bad" much as some people would like it to be; the gender of the angels is not mentioned unless I'm mistaken. Either way, they're not human. They clearly have some irresistible quality which god needn't have given them.

The lesson is "Giving up your daughters for gang rape is ay-okay with god. Due to objective morality, it's still fine today."

Which ones? The Bible expresses a different set of morals depending on which book you open. (The most progressive occasionally shine through in the New Testament). And usually where the Bible gets something right, the Greeks had already said the same thing and said it better.

From the story, we learn that a righteous man will save men from gang rape but not his daughters. He will also leave the safety of a city protected by god to hide in caves while he gets drunk.
