I think Jar Jar's character was developed in an attempt to appeal to children.
I'm not saying it was successful.
Or even amusing.
But I don't think he deserves the amount of hate he gets 

I actually disagree, just a bit. He deserves every ounce of hatred I can muster and more. For someone who grew up watching the Star Wars OT with my dad, I was extremely disappointed when JJB made his debut. And hell, when I saw it for the first time, I was only 8. So if it was an appeal to children, it definitely didn't work (as you mentioned Dahrling).

Maybe I don't hate Jar Jar because I am very neutral when it comes to Star Wars. I didn't really care for it growing up. But I can understand your frustration, there are intellectual properties I grew up with that got butchered along the way and deeply upset me

Yeah, I understand that some like him and that my hatred is a little idiotic, but I can't help it. Hell, one of my best friends loves Episode I primarily because of JJB. Everyone is entitled to their opinions of course, but I will never like him.
