I've been an Englishman in New York (and a few other states on occasion) and polite is not the word I'd use. More like fucking obsessed with an English accent, after a few days I was actually trying to whisper my order at the bar to avoid conversation.

But I understand the obsession with English accents. It goes so far that I have done my best to acquire one even though I've only spent extended amounts of time in the US and rarely in the UK.
