Ask a Finn!
We are the sixth happiest country in the world!

I'm a typical ice-hockey and sauna loving Finnish male and hope to have the expertise to answer any questions you might have about my country.

You are often lumped together with the Scandinavian countries because you're "up there" and next to them. What are the main differences apart from the language when it comes to culture, mentality, etc.?
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Why do you think your schools are so successful?

I guess we are relatively more conservative than the other Nordic countries. We still share more or less the same values and our states are modeled almost identically. There are plenty of small differences though.

I think the main reason for our success is the system which emphasizes equal opportunity instead of competition. It heavily favors pupils with learning difficulties, which might be harmful for exceptionally smart kids who are held back, but for society as whole it seems to work. It also stresses on finding out what you're good at instead of pressuring you to be the best. Teaching is also a prestigious and popular profession here.

Hey, can I ask a question, or are you already Finnished?

What I'm wondering is, why don't you guys like being called eskimos anymore? And how do you know whose turn it is to walk the penguin? How do you play hockey without breaking a window?

Why are there so many lakes?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
