The Reasons why "Just Following Jesus" Doesn't work
RE: The Reasons why "Just Following Jesus" Doesn't work
None of this matters, of course, except to a scapegoating christer.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The doctrine invalidates itself by making Jesus' sacrifice a joke. He's god, so he can't die, he's god, so he created the sin he supposedly atoned for.

Also, the trinity wasn't written in stone. If you're really familiar with church history, you will probably know about Arianism.
Like most Christian beliefs the idea of the trinity was copied from the Zoroastrians.

Rek: it's up to the person making the claim to provide evidence. Proving those events didn't happen is (currently) impossible, but that doesn't mean they did happen. That is the argument from ignorance.

It may well be that they didn't happen, but it is impossible to prove they didn't happen. That is the possibility you are ignoring when you present only two options: I can prove you wrong, or you are right. Those are not the only two options. There isn't always evidence for every true statement.

I understand this all sounds a bit weird to someone unfamiliar with logical fallacies, but it's very important. Without understanding why this argument is invalid, meaningful conversation simply cannot progress. I made a video on this very subject a little while ago. Thanks for reading my website. If you still don't get what I'm saying, please ask! This is not some nonsense I dreamed up on my own, this is standard logic.

Which basically explains nothing, since - and here's the crucial part - Jesus allowed himself to ....

I'm not holding my breath for anyone giving a comprehensive explanation of why trinity and blood sacrifics aren't mutually exclusive.

Rob it sound to me as thought you are using you argument of ignorance as a way to get away from actually looking at the facts. You asked for proof I gave you the bible as proof and then you state the that I am arguing from ignorance. The bible is not some invisible thing and it is about actual history.

You have value to me and to God wither you believe it or not. I think it would be a shame to disregard a warning. Everyone on this thread has value and needs to be warned about the future.

The bible is proof of nothing. Anyone can write things down, it doesn't make them true. It's a book like any other, an unindoctrinated mind can see that clearly. Notice how you disregard every other holy book but your own. I just disregard yours for the same reason. I've heard this all hundreds of times before. You might as well be telling me Santa is real because you have a book about Santa. It's really no different.

No, you were asking me to prove you wrong that Moses existed and such, and that the events happened. That is the argument from ignorance. I'm sorry if you still can't see that.

Thanks for the discussion.

Since God exist therefore I don't need to worry about any other so called "holy book" out there. I don't think that is the same reason you disregard the Bible. But I will be praying for you and I hope you learn the truth.

Prayer doesn't work. Test it!

I’m assuming that you're going to ignore the approximately 98%+ of scientific studies of prayer; maybe try to prove it to yourself. Instead of praying for yourself to do well on a test you know that you're going to pass, or instead of praying for your wife who has the common cold to get better soon, maybe try praying for something that will not happen under our laws of physics. Test your prayer on something that would take an act of god to occur. Set 5 items of the same size and weight on the floor. Pray for god to levitate the object of your choice, and float right into your hand. Keep praying for as long it takes for you to give up.

There's your results of your conversations with your imaginary friend.

The Harry Potter series is divinely inspired, and all of the books are the ‘True Word of God’. I could point to the books, and say, “Magic is ok, it’s in the Sorcerer’s Stone.” You’d say, “No, the bible says no witchcraft.” I’d say, “You’re wrong, I just know Harry Potter contains divinely inspired information. You can’t prove it wrong.” You could prove it wrong, and I would ignore the untrue information, ignore the farfetched material, and say that, “I just know god was speaking to the author while writing these books. When I pray, I can feel that it’s true. I know it that I know it that I know it. I prayed to Harry Potter that he would protect us from harm when my friends and I went out yesterday, and he did. He looks out for me. Just accept Harry Potter as one of your gods. Do you seriously think that someone would just make all of these books up, and that all of these people that witnessed Harry Potter perform his magic tricks were all making it up? Just have faith.”
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-

No, we're usually not discriminatory. We consider all the holy books "so called" holy books.
