I never said I quit. I don't know about how things work around here. Sorry if I did something I'm not supposed to do. I am trying to be rational, I guess. I can't agree with her when she ignores everything I present though.

Suggestion about new subforum

I summed it up by using "quit" as shorthand -- but yeah, that's the import of this sentence. (July 9, 2015 at 3:17 pm)excitedpenguin Wrote: I don't know about how things work around here. They work like any other forum: you make a suggestion, it gets discussed, sometimes your points are convincing, sometimes they're not. I don't think she's ignoring what you're saying, though. I think she simply doesn't agree with your point.
Thank you, Thump

Ok then, I might have exaggerated here and there in order to make a point.
I'm fairly new to forums in general. I only ever frequented only one other forum in this particular format, and it had a lousy staff, so yeah, Idk all that much about it. Another example of how the current state of affairs sucks.Check this out. There's a subforum that goes like this: A place to share videos, images, audio clips, and any other interesting media you find online. Look what kind of thread one person started there: https://atheistforums.org/thread-34399.html There's countless other similar cases, I presume. Just check the forums, I can't be bothered to provide you with everything out there. I just raised the issue, I hope someone will be paying attention to the problem, though. I mean seriously, this is just lazy thinking as to what kind of subforums to make. Just make a Diverse Topics kind of forum and it's all resolved. It's just a suggestion, anyway.
I know I said I was done, but this is really silly.

I've brought up your concerns in a staff subforum; we will discuss it. You don't know how things work, so why don't you ask instead of assuming things? Quote:Another example of how the current state of affairs sucks.Check this out. I'm sorry. What's the problem here? A member posted a thread about movies in the Media subforum. What am I not paying attention to? Quote:I mean seriously, this is just lazy thinking as to what kind of subforums to make. Do you really think you're going to garner positive attention from staff when you call us lazy? I'll have you know we work really hard to make this forum run as smoothly as possible and we're volunteers. We are staff because we care about the forum and we were selected for our fairness; nothing less. Quote:It's just a suggestion, anyway. No it's not *just* a suggestion. You have an idea which one staff member disagrees with, and then you spend three pages berating our practices here. *Just* a suggestion would be, "hey guys! I thought maybe we could benefit from this. What do you think?" Not, "this forum isn't run very well and everyone is ignoring me and it's my way or I'm leaving."

You can literally discuss any topic there you want (provided the content doesn't break forum rules). As far as creating other subforums goes, we're happy to do so if there's sufficient demand demonstrated. Generally speaking, discussion about non-fiction books fits in one of the other topical categories (Science, Philosophy, ... or even Off Topic). RE: Suggestion about new subforum

What am I not paying attention to?The problem is that sub-forum was clearly meant for something else. I don't get how that escapes you. That description notwithstanding, the Off Topic forum is meant for everything that doesn't fit anywhere else. In a lot of cases, the forum descriptions haven't been maintained to keep up with actual usage. Yeah, you'll find a lot of "light-hearted" and silly stuff in there, but you'll also find threads that aren't. If your problem with the Off Topic forum has to do with the "light-hearted" reference in the description, that can be remedied easily enough. If that isn't it, then I don't really understand what the problem is. RE: Suggestion about new subforum

What's the 'topic' to begin with? Maybe you should just rename that particular sub-forum and edit the description and leave it at that. Why do new members, like myself, have to struggle with the usage of the forum the way I am right now, just because nobody bothered to make it all less confusing, apparently? I love these forums by the way. It's the best thing I've come across in the internet, in a really long time. I'm sorry if I come off as agressive. And I never meant to diminish what you guys do - it's much appreciated. I just really think this is a problem, and not just for me. "Off Topic" == not topical in any other specific subforum. You are, AFAIK, the only person that's ever had an issue with this. |
