It's official. The universe is dying.

Quote:Without applause or encore, the lights are going out across the universe, as old stars die faster than new ones are born to replace them.
Astronomers described the slow death of the cosmos in fresh detail on Monday after training some of the world’s most powerful telescopes on a vast region of space.
They analysed starlight from more than 220,000 distant galaxies and found that the universe has lost about half of its twinkle over the past two billion years. It will lose far more in the next two billion.
“The universe is curling up on the sofa and becoming a couch potato,” said Joe Liske, an astronomer at the European Southern Observatory in Garching, Germany, who took part in the study.
But where does all the energy go?
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

But where does all the energy go?
The volume of the universe is increasing at a large rate as the most distant objects we can detect are moving away from us at a high % of the speed of light.
The mass and energy of the universe are rapidly being diluted into an ever larger amount of space.
The cosmic background radiation is 2.73 degrees above absolute zero, and was much higher in the past, and will continue to diminish into the far future.
In some extremely remote era of the universe, the mass and energy will be so diluted as to be all but undetectable, and the universe will continue to expand to even larger size.
The universe, by means of it's expansion, is essentially erasing itself.
I'm getting depressed . . . .

Why? What does the fate of the universe, after you are long dead, have to do with you? Right now, you seem to be a pretty good guy. That is not altered by what happens after you are long dead.

Even as hundred of billions of stars in the Milky Way are dying each at its own rate, and the Galaxy loses its sparkle, you would probably be dead before even a single one of those dying stars manage to get around to actually die. How's that for cheering you up?

It was not funny enough to be up to your usual standards. You have spoiled us, so you will have to do better to make us happy!

My lower colon does not share in the general expansion of the universe
