I've seen people make this claim and I've seen Christians use various approaches to defend against it. Still, I can't count the number of times I've seen a Christian use that exact claim to say why it wasn't a problem for God to drown the babies in the flood ("They ended up in heaven, so it's a net gain!").

I've heard people say that only God has the authority to do so. This leads to two issues:
Whether the person has the "moral authority" to kill or not is beside the point. They are improving the existence of the child and Christians believe the parent could later seek forgiveness.

IOW, the ends justify the means. You're welcome to hold that view yourself, but many people disagree, and not just theists.

This makes Christian morality not based on what actions a person takes, but who is taking the actions. If your answer to the question "is murder wrong?" is "it depends on who does it", your morality is probably fucked up.

Loaded question, as whether a killing is indeed murder is dependent on who is killed, who does the killing, and why.

Rather, the bible has different instructions for different sets of people. Most Christians recognize that. Atheists seem to have a hard time with the concept.

Why would I become a Christian now?

If I'm gonna do it at all, it will be just before I die. That works, right? If I do it now, I have to apologise each time I kill a baby. It will save time to just do the one apology at the end.
