Don't tell a Religious person "There is no God"

RE: Don't tell a Religious person "There is no God"
Informally, I'd say the statement "there is no X" is usually shorthand for "there is absolutely no reason to think there is a X", regarding anything other than what can be trivially observed.

I will make that claim after I hear their definition of "god". For some of the claims, you can actually say that particular "god" doesn't exist, like when the claim contradicts itself or is a bunch of contradictions mashed together.

But yes, most of time it's safer to say "I don't know" because it is normally the fastest way to get the believer off your back, and also saves you the trouble of bashing your head in a nearby wall.

Yeah because that's definitely what I said.
You’ll get over it.

Nice quantified response. What about other than "celestial"? What about out side the solar system? What about anywhere?

It doesn't matter if there is a trillion zillion gods in the universe.  None of them are in our solar system.

I'm perfectly comfortable asserting there are no gods for as long as belivers are incapable of demonstrating their claims are true.

I'll stop as soon as someone provides a convincing demonstration.

I don't really give a fuck how they feel about it.

If gods exist it's up to them to prove their existence.  Not one god of any kind has every proven its existence since the first con man created it.   Gods only exist in people's imaginations.  We know for a fact that no one really believes in Jesus because no one has ever had enough faith in him to levitate a mountain or even a tree.

If were to use Dawkin's scale, here's my perspective:

Abrahimic gods and other mythologies = hard 7. The literal existence of such beings would defy reality as it is known through the scientific method. Let's face a few things here: there wasn't a global flood, we aren't descended from one couple, snakes don't talk, etc. I'm very much a gnostic atheist when it comes to any modern or previous mythology.

Deism is another story upon which I sit with a 6.99. I can't say for sure that there was no creator that started everything. However, if there isn't evidence for it, I won't believe there is one.

Oh, and don't tell me I can or can not say. It is my right as a being with a free mind to assert whatever I wish. Tongue
