I threw of shackles of indoctrination long ago and I have no interest in partaking in opiate of religion ever again.
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

I have no problem with this, but to make the statement, even if you knew a religion was true, you would not follow it, surely is something else.
Something else? Ultimately, the reason I don't follow any given religion has less to do with it's truth than my own principles. A "true religion" which does not include and adhere to those principles is thusly no candidate club for me regardless. If I wake up tomorrow and think that jesus really died on the cross as some sin atoning scheme, I'm just as uninterested as I was the day before. If there -is- some divine succession of kings, ala your beliefs, I still have no desire to be their subject. If it -really- took human sacrifices to keep the sun god happy, I'm afraid that I just couldn't be the guy that held the knife.

I think it depends on the religion. Some would clearly not appeal even if they were true. Others might.

That's true. I think for me what I'd want is a sacrificial scapegoat. Someone to take all my essential rottenness onto themselves and pay whatever karmic tab I may have accumulated.

I'm in. Religion is a sham. Why are god-botherers posting in here? The title is pretty clear on what is being asked.

Even if a religion was really nice and everything, the very idea of it seems weird to me: to be "in a religion". What does it even mean?
If religion has some truth and good ideas, I'll take those good ideas, and discard the rest, if any. I'll apply those ideas to my life. I wouldn't however feel the need to identify as someone who got some good information from there, and announce myself as such, any more than I'd join a formal group of people who all learned some morals from He-Man.
It seems that religion virtually has to contain some sort of irrational, "supernatural" element, or else it wouldn't even be called one.
It's just a bizarre concept to me.
