My anti-theistic perspective
#41
RE: My anti-theistic perspective
I have never felt the need to restrain myself from saying what others never state. I have always stated what is on my mind, and that others would rather bottle it all up and pretend for the sake of societal obligations has always quite perplexed me.

Why chain one's self to mask after mask, only to be less of an individual?

RE: My anti-theistic perspective
I thought antitheism just meant that I don't want the theistic religions to be true (and luckily the evidence points that way). Am I wrong...?

Am I correct in ascertaining that most people would not wish for Hitler to have been killed before he could start his reign of terror?

How is that any different than me being relieved that Christians are dying and incapable of further spreading harm?

But all of those religious people who are still religious deserve to be mocked? Nah. I don't see that as a good reason to be anti-theist.

That much is true.

A better reason for being anti-theist isn't that theists are necessarily stupid, when in fact they aren't. The problem is that they teach theism, which contributes to much ignorance, no matter how intelligent the person who believes. Those who are too smart not to know better than what they are taught all too often will choose to fit in, and even teach it themselves - this may begin as a sincere effort to "reclaim" their own faith, but it contributes perversely to the culture of dishonesty and socially-enforced ignorance, and it's an infection which to some degree sickens all of society (you know how evangelicals just cannot keep their shit to themselves).

So every theist is like Hitler then?

You're sounding more like Hitler yourself than any theist I have ever spoken with - wanting people to die for being of a particular religion.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Just askin'.

I mourn the loss of life, but a theistic life being lost is, to me, akin to a squashing a bug.

Aaaaaaaand I'm done with this thread.

I have to agree on that, its a weird escalation into Godwin territory!
