Personally I care why because I'm not a homosexual and I like to learn about other people's experiences, opinions and general outlook on the topic. I think all kinds of sexual desires and behavioural patterns are fascinating.
Who else cares? Well apart from far left liberals or people from the other end of the spectrum (Christians, Muslims other people who mostly seem to not like gay people) who have a vested interest in the subject, I imagine it's of interest to biologists since they would probably wonder how it fits in with evolution.
I am a biologist and a liberal, for what it's worth. I am all about investigational science. The politics of sexuality and who should and shouldn't be doing who or what makes me stabby. That's where I am coming from. People just need to STFU about what other people do with their genitals, seriously.

You must lack curiosity about this subject then.
Got it in one. I simply don't care. For me, wondering how (or if) homosexuality evolved is on a par with pondering why some people have brown eyes or are left handed or prefer Elvis to the Beatles. It doesn't matter to me.

It's probably many things. I'm gay, I can tell you it's not a choice (well, the sex is, but the attraction I mean) and probably just how my brain is wired up. I don't know anything more than that but I can vouch for it not being a choice.
That said, even if it was totally a choice, that still doesn't justify the gay-bashing. Saying "homosexiality is unnatural" is a non-argument. First off it's victimless, and how many things does every person do every day that isn't natural? You wake up with a man-made roof over your head, drive a car to work and eat shitty processed foods. I can't take the "it's unnatural" argument seriously unless it comes from the mouth of someone living naked out in the forest.
I don't believe that it is a choice but I don't find it easy to completely dismiss the idea that it isn't a choice.
I have feelings of empathy and I get a "thrill" or whatever you want to call it from doing something reasonably kind.
But if I had been a child and my emotional development was fucked in some way I might not have empathy, or as much empathy, I might have more anger.
Now I could sit here as either a psychopath or a person with empathy and say, yep I can vouch that I just am this way.
I'm not saying that empathy is the same as sexuality, I'm just putting forward the question of how confidently can we really say what is just fundamentally and biologically our natural behaviour and what caused by some thing outside of that.
And yeh it's a question about whether the answer to this question justifies violence against someone. A choice or not, natural or not, I don't see a justification for violence.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

I agree with this, to me it doesn't particularly matter what the cause is, except out of scientific curiosity. Even if homosexuality was a choice, I would have no problem with it. I don't feel that it needs justification.

This. I don't care what consenting people of any gender do with their private bits. The "why" is strictly curiosity.
My sexual preferences certainly weren't a choice, why would I think it matters? It's simply not my business.
The OP would probably consider me a far left liberal, whether I do or not.

I don't think curiosity about the subject should be disparaged. If you're not curious about it, why'd you open the thread? And if you are curious about it, why should you take issue with the OP asking?

Why people get so heated about who other people fuck is beyond me.
Some guys like sticking their dick's in man anus, some women like drinking from the furry cup, get over it.

Seems a weird way for God to mete out a curse, don't it ?
I can never find the study when I look, but I read a paper once that argued that homosexuality may be the by-product of a genetic mutation that made female mammals more fertile. It also argued that male and female homosexuality may have arisen due to different mutations. The deleterious effects are overcome by the positive gains in fertility.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

How nice the world would be without religion trying to tell us what is right and wrong.
I'm left handed. Mum used to force me to write with my right when I was a kid because writing with your left is the work of the devil! no shit!
Why is it that the Catholics priests who are over represented in touching up boys are the first to tell us how evil it is to be homosexual.
And these are the people who guide the masses on Sunday... Wake up sheeple...
