Of course, God has a plan. He plans when we will die, and how, and in how much pain. And how much suffering this will cause all those around the person. And he makes those little insects that burrow into your eyeball.
Or:
Whatever kills us will take our life. Deal with it. If you want to credit god with our murder, if that makes you happy, go ahead.

Some people still use it, but it appears to be receding. I guess they're gradually realising how ridiculous it is as an argument.

God does not have a plan.
God is in man's imagination, so any plan man think god has is just man's plan.

Actually, I think it usually works this way: some little con-artist says "I know what God's plan is, God told ME". Then he somehow manages to convince a few sheeple to believe he's oh-so-special, and if he just keeps up the charade, the sheeple will give him money and do whatever he tells them.

Shouts into the air again, "Dear Lord, if you exist, then please strike me down where I stand immediately!"

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Actually, it's easy to prove that an invisible pink unicorn does not exist: If something's invisible, then it cannot have any color; therefore, an invisible pink anything is impossible.
Nevertheless, I agree with the sentiment, since I believe I can also prove that God does not exist...

You should not interpet that literally, what it meant is: invisible in the sense "out side the field of view", not in the sense that is actually invisible.

Maybe so, but then why make it ambiguous? Why not simply say "pink unicorn" or "invisible unicorn"?

Because you can make claims that seem very strong....but end up being nice an flexible.
