Sanders is a godless commie that will make us all work on/in government collectives and have government redistribution of wealth.

I didn't want to start a fight on FB or in other ways embarrass her for it, but I just had to sit there a minute and roll this one around in my brain...

I know she has been opposed to Hillary Clinton since Bill was in office, so I'm not surprised by that remark. And she actually posted a surprisingly insightful critique, from a Christian POV, of Trump... but I'm trying to figure out how Sanders gets lumped into that mix. Here's what she commented:

Seriously, mom? When God sends us a Jew who gives away free stuff and feeds the hungry (Matthew 14), worries about the poor and critiques the wealthy (Matt. 19:24), defends the humanity of prisoners (Matt. 25:36), and says we should put others first and treat everyone the way we want to be treated (Matthew ch. 6-7), it's "withdrawing His Favor"???

No wonder the Temple got razed only 40 years after that guy arrived on the scene in Judea!

Be glad she isn't for Trump.

Quote:Among white evangelical Republican voters nationally, Trump earned the support of 37 percent, while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose father is a pastor and has played a key role in recruiting faith leaders to support his son, is at 20 percent. In the same survey conducted the previous week, Cruz registered 9 percentage points higher. Below the top two contenders, Ben Carson earned 11 percent among evangelicals, and Marco Rubio took 10 percent.

Evangelican appears to mean racist,  xenophobic,  paronoid,  and jinogoistic.

No, she rails against Trump even among her hyper-conservative friends. She has not a racist bone in her body, and has a pretty decent grasp on history... she recognizes the fascist rhetoric for what it is.

Trump's values are in no way aligned with those of evangelicals, and I think the poll reflects the power of media and a non-religious agenda of hyper-conservatives to vote for anyone who will promise to "make America great again", since the whole WASP world is vanishing with time, and they know it... or at least, they sense it.

Correlation is not causation, though. It may be that a large number of frightened, poor, working-class WASPs are willing to overlook his racist rants, or not to recognize that they are in fact racist (white privilege in action), seeing it as a modern-day priest (money-maker) of Capitalism "calling out the blame". That's part of what makes it fascist... fascism is a right-wing ideology. It may be that a large number of racists, or at least those who think this country was better when it looked like Mayberry (in their minds, anyway), are also evangelicals.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

He's not 'godless' when one considers the god that slew Ananias and Sapphira for being slacker commies.

We otta be rubbing the christer's noses in Bernie being a better acolyte of their god than they are.

The Bible says that God appoints all leaders and that the riff-raff are not to curse them or else they will end up in the lake of fire.

Sure, based upon Trump's historical comments he's a racist.  But all things considered he's probably the best racist at this time.  All of our Presidents have been racists.  If he's able to break the influx of illegal aliens it will give all poor people a chance to get some jobs.  Of course over the next few years all kinds of jobs will disappear because of the growing use of robots.  The other candidates want even more illegal aliens in the country.  So Trump has to get some points for his stance on that issue.

The flip side is that he wants to screw everyone out of health care and Social Security, but so do all of the other Repubs.  So that's a neutral.  All of them will fuck the poor on that issue and they brag about it.

The Dems don't have the guts to improve the system so they are mostly worthless.  Hillary is the worse candidate of all because she thinks that she's entitled to be President.  Bill was a turd and caused a lot of the current problems we have now.  Kick their butts to the curb.

So what do you have in your wallet?

Are you wealthy?

Are you rich?

Are you well-off?

Are you average, with less than $500 cash to your name?

The good news is that Sanders guarantees full employment in the government collectives.  That's more than anyone has guaranteed.

This was meant as a joke referring to what Rockets mom said/was thinking. Start from the beginning and read again.

Do you really think the president is so powerful (my bolded)?  I mean yeah, he can dial up some nuclear rain.  But can he even appoint a judge let alone set any policy whatsoever without the approval of the lunatic asylum we call the congress?  I think "separation of powers" is code for "status quo protected against any possible meddling".  Our constitution is an anachronism.

Perhaps, but I'm not sure I want to see the result of a Constitutional Convention with all the batshit crazy that's around.

He doesn't have unlimited power, but he can still dish out the hurt with illegal wars (Bush in Iraq) with the most powerful military in the world without having to go to congress for approval.  Then there's the executive order that King Obama and King Bush have been so fond of.  I'm grateful that we have the congressional lunatic asylum, whether they happen to be blue or red, and I actually like the fact that it's very difficult to change the status quo.  That means it's a much harder fight and longer process to change things, but once they are changed they're not likely to be flipped on and off based upon the whims and biases of whatever regime has the majority.
