A question for our resident theists. Since you seem to be so adamant about transgenders using the "proper" pooper, how do you feel about straight up opposite sex handicapped assistants? I mean some guy with a penis might have to enter the ladies room to help his handicapped wife drop her deuce! Holy fuck, the horror.

This issue isn't about which sex enters what room, but about keeping people who aren't "normative" out of sight and out of mind.

I've never seen anyone as obsessed by the genitals of others as the pious assholes on the religious right.

You brought up a great point which hits close to me. My mother has mobility issues, and I cant count the amount of times I have had to go into the woman's room to assist her. Mostly just to open heavy doors, but sometimes I have actually had to assist her out of the stall because she didn't have  proper angle back to her motor chair.
Oh and when she could walk, and still has now, short hair and I can't tell you how many times strangers called her sir because of her deeper voice.

I have a similar case: my dad had his first stroke when he was 42, and multiple others until he died eight years ago at 59. I accompanied him to the bathroom so many times. Until now, I hadn't even thought of this particular issue happening in North Carolina, where I used to drive my dad on roadtrips from east Tennessee fairly frequently. Would my dad have had to rely on strange men to help him with his bathroom stuff while we were on vacation only because I have a few different parts?

So it comes down to the comfort of the person involved.

Are you referring to the person who is transgendered or the person who has an issue with which bathroom they use?

Personally, having to pee is about MY comfort and not someone else's. Unless they are looking in my pants or up my skirt or in the bathroom stall I'm in, where I choose to relieve myself is none of anyone's god dammed business.

For real.... how many threads does this make now where talking about what bathroom a person uses becomes the center of attention?

I'm surprised that I read atheists supporting the notion that our sex is determined by which one we think are, rather than what we are biologically.  I always get lectured about scientific evidence and so on.  Our sex is not determined by what we think we are, but rather by what we are biologically.  If you anatomically male or female, then that's what you are.  I'm white and it doesn't matter how much I may think I'm black, I'm still white.  If a person has a sex change operation, then there is no problem with restroom or locker room use.  Teenage high or junior high school girls should not have to share a restroom, or especially a locker room with a person with male equipment.  That's why they have boys and girls facilities.  Transgenders should be respected and accommodated in the best way possible, such as  separate private areas.  Male transgenders in high school locker rooms would be in danger of harassment.  I think the locker room thing demanded by the Obama administration could finally be the thing that causes sane people to revolt against the insanity.  It's about time to stop infringing on the rights of 99% of the people to accommodate those of 1%, when it can be done in a better way.  I hope other states follow the lead of North Carolina and rise up against this stupidity.

Cool story, but no ones writing any law that says transwomen are biologically female...so who cares? The opposition to this -doesn't- care whether or not a person has had gender reassignment surgery..they want post op transwomen to be required to go to the mens room as well.

Do you really agree with the position you are supporting, are you actually opposing anything that someone is doing....and what right is being infringed upon? I'm having trouble finding the section of the BoR that handles public potty access....help me out?
