Look: I'm not trying to be argumentative. I just hate it when people don't understand what the word "atheism" actually means.
It's okay to disagree. And, I was not singling you out, in particular.
Yes you were. Bold mine.

No, it's not. But for that you'd have to have some basic knowledge of history. Which you obviously have not. And you refrain from listening to someone who has. It's that simple.
Send a letter to the National Review and tell them to correct their story. And, while you're at it, update the Wikipedia articles, also. And, yes, while I am no historian, military history has interested me over the years. By the way, why did the Muslims attack Constantinople in 1453? And, if they were so tolerant, why did they turn the Hagia Sophia into a Muslim Mosque as soon as the city fell?

My initial reply was to Drich; that's when you jumped-in, saying how offended you were. Of course, atheists are not all cut from the same clothe.

And why did Mehmet II do it? And how did he treat the survivors?

Because I'm curious how our friend answers that question. One is along his simplistic lines. The other one is in agreement with the scientific community. Why should I spoil the fun?

How are you not getting this? Are you just being willful or what?

Many of them died, as they ran through the streets early in the wee hours of the morning, screaming for the Blessed Virgin Mary to save them. The Byzantine emperor, Constantine, fell like a hero before the gates of his city. After the conquest, the Muslim army spent three days plundering the city:
