Where are the black friends?

I found that too, in Boston.  I was the guy it was okay to be a bigot around.  Something™ tells me they didn't turn into bigots when I showed up.

I felt like the Dalai Lama, channeling all these Inner Assholes.

I encounter the occasional intolerant remark at gay people from time to time from people that don't know.

I have noticed a  trend regarding that though that makes hearing it maybe more interesting than upsetting.


Take for instance the last such comment I heard:  

"I don't like gay marriages"


Kinda tepid, no ??   I still wasn't happy hearing it, however, think of all the gay rights issues since the Stonewall riots.  This complainer is up to speed on all of them, apparently, except the last one.  

I probably shouldn't be annoyed at all.  One of the first things I heard after I came out (this was '76) was an offer to beat the shit out of me, just for being gay.

Not liking gay marriage is pretty evolved over that.


And all in my lifetime.

Sure, it's a process. That's why I don't piss on my dad's grave for being the unrepentant racist he was. As much as I despise that view of his, I know him as a whole person, and know his goodness in other areas, and that is what I think of when I think of him ... even as I work to undo the legacy he and his generation bequeathed us.

Much as I imagine that as much as he despised minorities, when he knew one personally he could cast aside his own bigotry. That fact gives me hope.

History is indeed a march of progress. We've gone from killing outsiders to killing adulteresses to killing witches to killing people who want to take our oil.

Pretty soon we'll just be killing people who beat us in online MoH or championship Yahtzee.

Well, I hear people use the word retard all the time. People here know how I feel about that.
My son is gay. He has my FULL support. His lifestyle choice is no ones business but him and his partner. Now, that said, he's only 14. I, as his parent, have the responsibility to protect him and keep him safe. I wouldn't be a good parent if I allowed him to be careless. Just because he can't get another man pregnant, is no reason to let him just do whatever he wants.

When he's 18 and on his own, I would hope that I have taught him enough about being careful, that he is responsible, but life offers no guarantees.

I don't know if your son had a similar experience to this, but upon reflection, it is really illustrative to me as an adult:

when I was in third grade (IANMTU) I noticed the junior high boys smelled good, after PE in the gym on their way to the locker room.

No choice, no satanic demon casting an evil spell on me, just an 8 year old boy noticing something no one else in his grade did.

And I think even then, it shows a pattern in my preference, even to this day, the older boys are fucking hot.

LOL,  watching Flipper, even when Bud was much closer to my age, I was always more interested in Sandy, his older brother.  And now watching the reruns, JFC, Porter is smoking!

Well, he's registered here. Let's see what he has to say when he comes back home next weekend.

I'm not shy about talking to him with regards to stuff like this. Honestly, if it helps me be a better parent to know what sorts of things to expect, then I can be of better support to him.

Every single time some idiot says something racist the first thing out of their mouth is: "My best friends are black!" or "I have lots of black friends!" So to you people I say: Where are these so called black friends? Are they really okay with what you're saying ? Where's the proof?! Bring out the black friends!!

I have a better one for you. "I can't be racist, my main spirit guides are black!"
