I was feeling so down and thought that may I need to go to psychiatrist to like openly talk about my feelings when I came across this forum.. Well, firstly, I Didn't welcome you, (I am also new here actually ), So welcome Monalisa and welcome me.. Yey
Second, I'm sorry for your loss..
Third, It is indeed Hard to speak your heart when people are primitive in their POV.
I Encounter the same thing where i Live (Israel) .. Sometimes when I tell people I'm and atheist, they look at me as if i fell out of the Sky ( )
But I can tell you with assurance, You are not the freak.. They are.
You should be proud of yourself for the courage to finally think for yourself and allow yourself to enjoy life and what life has got to offer.
Feel free to speak your mind.. No one here will think your crazy or freak or whatever.
And if someone does, I am pretty sure they'll have some nice counters that will probably make them feel the weird ones
So to sum it up.. Yep.. you were right, It doesn't seem that God has got anything to do with .. well hmm... anything actually..
And even if God does exist, It sure doesn't give a crap about any of our earthly business
Hurray

We're just the tip of the iceberg Dey. Most folks don't have the time or the impetus to post on a board like this.
Chances are you're surrounded by like-minded people just going through the motions.. like you were/are. Chin up, it's not as bad as it seems.
Fun fact, atheism has a long history in hindu tradition (insomuch as hinduism can be called a monolithic tradition) - arguably the first atheists on-record espoused their position from within the collective of indian philosophy.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Atheists in India are a minuscule minority, hardly 0.0027% of the total population of around 3 million.. There are definitely others but they have not declared it publicly yet.. (like me). Two very common religions here in India, Jainism and Buddhism, rejected the existence of a deity who is supposed to be the creator of our universe..They do believe in Karma though.. Nothing's changed since this was first uttered, couldn't have put it better myself. Just replied to you but it kinda disappeared.. any who.. I was saying earlier that atheists in India are a minuscule minority of around 0.2 percent or so in a population of 3million approx... there are any others like me who have not declared their religious belief publicly .. two very common religions in India, Buddhism and Jainism, have actually denied the existence of a deity who is supposed to be the creator of this universe.. Have you gone through the poem '5000 dead gods'? read it.. its so powerful and humorous at the same time..
