Do You Ever Miss God?
#11
RE: Do You Ever Miss God?
Not really. A had some fun times with the people at my church and youth groups, but that was hanging out with people. I had a personal relationship with them. I never had a personal relationship with Jesus.

When you have a really close relationship with someone, you find out little things about them. What do they like to eat? What do they like to do in their spare time. Any little hobbies, and interests. It's hard to miss someone you don't know, and it's hard to know someone when the only information about them comes from other sources.

If I miss "God", I shall just have to improve my aim.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

OP: Every time. Haven't found a sight yet that will let me dial in on that fantasy. Sneaky bastard.

Try "I missed god once. I just reloaded and shot him again." I'm sure nobody else will come up with that one.

I miss it, sometimes. There's a comfort in just believing, it doesn't matter what it is. Just to believe.

Except that isn't something that you ought to value, it's something that ought to disgust you.  That's the mindset of a child who doesn't know any better, which let's be honest, describes theists everywhere.  I don't miss just believing and neither should anyone else.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

I can see this question from the other side I think!! Having been an atheist all my life, with atheist family etc; I always found a level of distinct discomfort when attending religious ceremonies out of politeness. By this I mean the usual weddings, funerals, christenings and confirmations. Here in England I never saw much more than rote observance to a formula that the families followed through custom rather than observance.

When I lived i Canada and the US, I must admit that I saw much more community as an aspect of church life, and it must exist to some degree here in England as well, but it is very under the radar.

We are just not hot for god, but, then I guess being English, we are not hot for much more than tea, crumpet, spankings and royaltySmile

Just a shame that you didn't dump the religion as well as the tea in Boston.

At first. I think I stopped believing about 6 or 7 years ago. I see it like having a friend you absolutely love and talk to every day, every day of your life. One day you're in therapy and you receive the revelation that the friend is imaginary and never existed. You look around and the friend disappeared. You were talking to the wind. It was all unreal. You feel abandoned even though it was never there. You didn't even get to say goodbye. And you're confused, because you know this person was imaginary, but you can't help miss them. Once in a while you begin to say something to them, then you remember, shoot. I'm kind of crazy and talking to an imaginary friend at age twenty something. Heh

It was weird at first. Kind of like the movie "The Others". That same feeling of truth. Damn. The brainwashing was potent. Gotta fix myself.

I don't miss the god anymore. Not one bit. ZERO. I don't miss the church and I don't miss their god. Nada. I'm very fortunate to have set myself free from that craziness and I'm free at last! Woot woot!
