RE: What do fundamentalists think about moderates?

(This post was last modified: September 14, 2017 at 1:06 pm by The Grand Nudger.)
Fundamentalists loath sunday christians, cafeteria christians, and christian tourists. This is a small and mostly benign sampling of the derisives common and commonly understood by fundamentalist culture. Their position on those christians is demonstrated plainly in the very act of manufacturing derisives.
No one has to ask what a man on a street corner shouting about the problems with the darkies thinks about black people. Similarly, there's no need to ask what fundamentalists shouting about the problems of sunday christians think of moderate christians. The cheif problem, in both cases, is that they are darkies, or sunday christians. Such is self stated and explicit in derision.
Somehow, however, the nature of those people as "religious" people seems to effectively cover the fact that their derision is not religious in nature, but a simple expression of common human bigotry radiating out in all directions to anyone not like the bigot themselves. The Other Guy doesn't hate the gays...at least not enough, for the gay hating christian. The secular christen does not show enough deference to the One True God for the Christian Dominionist. The permissive is not enough of a busybody for the men who would watch you pee.
They contend that it is their faith that propels them to derision and bigotry and loathing, but I don't think that they understand their own motivations - as usual. The permissiveness and decency of other christians in opposition to their own positions suggests that their indecency is not, in point of fact, attributable to god or a christian faith (true or otherwise).... but solely to themselves. Their condemnation of others who fail to adequately engage in their own preferred bigotries is a way of turning indecency to virtue and piety. A defense of their own self image as good people. The other guys have to be the assholes...because if they aren't........than the fundamentalists must be.

Fundies ruin it for everyone, themselves first of all. They inherently distrust their own powers of perception and insight so they cling to what is claimed to be authoritative. Then, pumped up by their slavish devotion to authority, they then regard everyone who hasn't fallen into line with the authority they have chosen and lash out with great conviction and (borrowed) authority.

If you're not a religious bigot you're not doing it right.

I was raised funditard Pentecostal. I heard this a LOT.
OUR group had it right. The Bible (the King James Protestant Bible, mind you) was literally written by God. They believed Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were Apostles who walked with Jesus and wrote everything down. The Bible was infallible, and questioning anything in it could send you to hell. There were millions of people who were following false doctrines and false prophets. One could not embrace the world (tv, radio, movies, plays, dancing, most modern fiction) during the week and pretend to be holy on Sunday. People who did this were going to get a shock when they were sent to hell.
The rest of the world was evil and sinful. Other churches had it wrong. Catholics were idol-worshipers. Other religions were created by the devil. The devil was winning. Only WE were pure and holy.
It was a very very very very very sick environment.

How the fuck can the devil be winning if the god is all powerful and all knowing?
It points to the god wanting the devil to win.

Sounds like a wonderful environment for inbreeding. No one outside the church would meet criteria to be allowed procreation.

Lol...yep. Our Pentecostal pastor touched on that verse at least once per sermon.

Cite the verse where it's specified that only 12,000 MEN from the each of the twelve tribes of Israel will be raptured.

"Oh, golly no...that doesn't mean what people think it means."....lol.
They serve God as special king-priests, or some shit like that. I think. I have a hard time remembering most of that garbage, and can't be bothered to look it up these days.
I believe that the remaining believers still get their ice cream, though, according to common interpretations.
