The Travel Thread - U.S. Version

RE: The Travel Thread - U.S. Version
Rhythm, I'm willing to meet you in the middle at some point and split gas money to go see Shell, regardless of whether anyone else wants to venture into Yank territory. I've been wanting to go to Boston for years, and "meeting" Shell who lives there is icing on the cake.

I won't go to Boston. I'd rather shoot myself in the fucking head (no offense Shell). Bah, let me mull it over.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I'm too far north to make it worth the effort to pick you up Summerqueen, otherwise, it's not a bad idea.

You'd end up an accessory to kidnapping on the drive home. I have a daughter in Boston.

Hey...what are friends for?

Cinjin - no worries. If it comes down to it, I'll just take a train - something I've never done before and would love to do if the drive-time made it worth taking a train instead (and Boston is that far away).

I'm actually really keen to go west instead to meet you guys - I'm pretty sure Orogenicman said he was in KY and I'd love to see him and visit the observatory he goes to, if he's up for it. Doesn't DP live somewhere in the mid-west as well, or am I imagining things?

What about the SW corner of PA. Pittsburg area. That's pretty centralized. For that matter, where is that Tolkien event you wanted to go to located at Summer?

DP hasn't sounded off about this at all. Would be very cool though.

Oh, hell, it wasn't a Tolkein specific event, just a huge nerd gathering that includes skeptics and atheists.

Dragon*Con is in Georgia, which is why I'm promoting the one that's next year. I'd also like to go to TAM which is in Las Vegas. (Can you imagine some of us let loose there?)

For really nerdy shit, I try every year to go to the Maryland Renaissance Festival and the Carolina Renaissance Festival. Anyone interested in visiting North Carolina should do so in October when the festival is running - we can go to the faire if you choose, drink excessive amounts of pumpkin ale and people-watch and do nerdy things. Or whatever you please - fall is a fucking AWESOME time to visit the Blue Ridge area, between the spiced ales, the cooking, the weather, the leaves... Halloween weekend would be a bang-up time.

Renn fests are fine and well, but if we're going to pretend, let's stick to cool shit like dragons and elves rather than fat women in corsets and fat men in hose. Sure, those will be well represented at Dragon*Con, but at least there will be other things to look at.

Are we creating a "Kidnap Summer" thread now?

Whoa whoa, guys. No, I don't think Rhythm was talking about kidnapping *me,* but just for the record: even though I like being tied up as much as the next girl, you kidnap me and you're going to get a machete wielding hellion on your hands.

Anywhere nerdom exists, you will get fatness. Hell, I'm one of those fat people, I just still look good in a corset. On the other hand, I've seen some chicks at the MD fest wearing Xena clothes that made grown men fall to their knees in thanksgiving. It's a crap shoot, but you're going to have fun either way.
