I'm really confused about this. My kids watch this show and I've IMDB'd it and as the first season wraps up, the story line shows Andi (the main character) really likes Joshua, who broke up with his girlfriend, Amber. So I'm really lost as to how the main character is gay. From what I can gather, Andi's parents had her secretly and when they were really young and Andi ends up being raised by her grandmother, Cici (Cecilia), while being told that Bex, her older sister, is actually her mother. She also ends up meeting her father in season 1 as well.

Season 2 starts tonight with an hour long episode. We'll be watching it because I like the show.

Gotta correct this as it's Jonah not Joshua. I just found this out. Big Grin

I notice you completely missed all the direct to DVD and made for Disney channel movies, not to mention the tired, retreaded sitcom ideas.

You can keep cherry picking the exceptions, but when I look at the whole body of their work, it's dissapointing at best.

Yes, I cherry picked good movies (which BTW is almost every movie they made in the last decade, there aren't any I left out in the last decade, so NOT cherry picked there).

But you said all or almost all were bad.  So I CAN cherry pick the good ones to point out that blanket statement is flat out wrong.
I think you are stuck on 90's Disney.  They don't do much of that direct to DVD sucky crap anymore.  And not even all of those were bad.

Bold mine, but words yours.  I stand by my point that quite a lot of their entertainment, and almost all of their big in-house productions, are very high quality entertainment. Do they also make some garbage?  Undeniably so.  But to label it almost all garbage is just....myopic.

I've obviously triggered you on this. I'll just step out as I'm in no mood to argue a difference of opinion.

OK, tried to watch Andi Mack and couldn't, made it thru 15 min. To sappy.

Might give another episode a try later but not gonna hold my breath.

I think Disney is only making history within the Disney world.  I mean the main character in this as far as I can tell isn't gay.  It's one of the main characters.

Tv shows featuring one of the main characters being gay have been going since the 70s.

I remember when I was younger we have a show in the UK called Byker Grove which is a kids show and one of the characters on that came out as gay within the show and that must have been at the latest in the mid 90s.

Not to say there isn't any controversy over gay characters, there might be, especially in a show where the kids are as young as they are. But I think it's a stretch to call this breaking ground or making history.

I might be missing something because even the BBC is reporting this as making history, but as I said I managed to think of a kids show off the top of my head with a gay character storyline from the 90s, and if you included standard non kid shows you can really take your pick from the amount of gay characters.  Willow was gay in Buffy the vampire slayer, and that was also 90s.

It's a Disney show about 13 year olds, the average viewer is 10 years old according to the BBC report I just read.  I think you're way outside the target audience for this one.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Nice cop out, combined with an insult! lol

My argument was not attacking you, nor emotional.  I was pointing out the flaw in your phrasing.  We all make mistakes.  I guess some people are just less able to admit it.  (For instance, I admitted that they make some poor stuff. I'm not the one using sweeping generalizations).

But I can see I've triggered you by questioning your choice of words.  So I'll let it go.   Angel

Great for Disney. But I bet all those conspiracy nuts that see hidden penises in all Disney's posters for cartoons are like "I told you so! They want to turn kids into homos."

Also when will they start having in shows autosexuals? Like, they could have done it in 90s in that TV show "Felicity" where Felicity breaks up with all her crushes and starts going down on herself because, let's face it, she would have ended up like that considering all the boring ass guy characters in that show.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I mean, you are entitled to your wrong opinion, but are you saying you think:

Hercules
Tarzan
The Emperors New Groove
Lilo and Stitch
Tangled
Wreck-it-Ralph
Paperman
Frozen (Ok, I give you this one, 'cause it was overhyped, but it's not lacking quality...)
Big Hero 6
Moana
Zootopia

...are all or mostly all shit films?
Beause that's not like 1 or 2 in the last 15 or so years. That's a lot of good movies and short films right there.  All made in house.
Also, I get tired of people doing this:

I hate that Disney owns "Insert IP here", they are going to mess with it and screw it up.
AND
All the the good things Disney makes cannot be attributed to Disney, it's someone else.

It's one or the other, folks.  Either they meddle and it is at least partly due to them that those things are good, or they don't meddle, so they can't be blamed when they buy and IP and farm it out to one of their subsidiaries and it sucks.  Pick.A.Fucking.Side.

/rant

Edited to add Hercules and Zootopia.  And hell, that isn't even a complete list!  My daughter said, don't forget Zootopia!  lol.

Funny you should make that list. Hercules is actually exactly when I think disney animated movies started going downhill lol.

I looooooove little mermaid, beauty and the beast, Aladdin, lion king..... etc.

I feel like Mulan was the last good one. But after that they just became... silly imho. I still love disney world though, and im a huge fan of the bachelor franchise which is owned by disney.

I'm still a Disney fan! Just don't care for their animated movies anymore.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
