Alan used the example of the flat-earther. He said you can't convince a flat-earther the earth is round because he KNOWS it's flat. You have to make him "persist in his folly"... that is, you have to take him for a walk to have a look over the edge... and when he comes back to the place he started, he is convinced the earth is at least cylindrical.
The Backfire Effect happens when evidence is presented contrary to the beliefs of a person which causes the opposite of the intended effect. In other words, the more evidence you produce, the more they dig in. The way around that is to help them "persist in their folly" by asking them to explain their position more specifically until you get them to the point that they realize they don't know as much as they thought.

Wow this guy really likes sitting around calling everything he does not like an Ad Hom no matter how innocent which itself is an Ad Hom. Yup some atheist are jerks and are irrational so what?. And yes arguments can and do change minds. And insisting we inherently presume were right is again dishonest .

Yeah, so you showed an example of a crazy, raving atheist. Do you really want to get into a pissing match over how many raving, crazy theists there are compared to atheists?
We would win that contest without breaking a sweat.
Also, the bigoted comments from the video you posted mean nothing. Comments like "your average atheist, ladies and gentlemen" or "You know. This behavior is very common among new atheist. The rage they display is unreal" are inaccurate in the extreme.
Why not take a look at examples of the 1000's of other atheist vids. Just watch one video by atheist Anthony Magnabosco, Godlees Cranium, Pothholer54, Logicked and many more, to see that that vid is NOT an average atheist.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
