I think the new rule of american political discourse is that we're not allowed to exist Shadow. 
OTOH, "fiscal conservatism" is a term of art for american politicans, it's not like a vote for an r or a d is a vote for fiscal conservatism. Both parties are irresponsibly "pro-business", the only meaningful differences sit in their social platforms. "Paleoconservative" legislators knew this, yelled it at the rooftops...and then then went the way of the dodo for all the good it did them. The bell finally tolled when the Bush (jr) admin rewrote what it meant to be a conservative.

I knew several gay men and two lesbians (that came out to me) when I was in the USN (20 years). Never had problems with any of them, mostly good workers. (My personal litmus test for "good sailor".) I heard from one of them when the laws changed. He married another guy from that crew. I wished them good luck and much happiness.

Yes exactly. From what I've seen conservative governments aren't usually fiscally conservative. I would be excited to actually see a government that doesn't want more pork if it can take it. And shocked.
But "pro-business" is a really disturbing mindset. I say this as a business student. It's not the government's role IMHO to pander to businesses, it should be the government's role to do exactly not that. Not the world we live in at all though.

When someone can find a politician that -doesn't- want a contract to build a part of the next fighter for their state is the time to talk about a "strong military" like it were a difference between r's and d's.
Until then, it;s very obviously one of those reasons™ that have been used to con people into pulling the lever against their own interests.
The same observation can be made in the reverse....that a person who votes d because they want to see military spending decreased. Well, maybe d's should make that more clear to their reps....because dems keep signin that check, don't they?
