Gay conservatives? Anything's possible, I suppose. I've even heard rumours of straight liberals.

Whaddya mean, 'military shit'? Look, pal - a huge, rampant, throbbing military is often the only way to deal with people who stupidly refuse to think the same way you do.

Like, you think the party fundamentally changed? Discrimination based on sexual orientation is still a problem, obviously. And I don't think it's Republicans who want to see an end to it.
At the same time, assuming a gay person should make their sexuality a higher priority over their broader political philosophy is a bit.... not really sure what word to use. But it's making the individual into just a member of a group. Which I don't like.
The point of this sort of thing is show that conservative ideology can resonate with people who'd normally reject it. It's the same approach as black Republicans -- "our policies aren't racist, we've got blacks in our party."

We could slash the military budget in half and we'd still be head and shoulders over the second-biggest spender, China. Hell, most of the countries we're likely to go to war with actually have lower defense budgets than Germany and Japan, whose militaries are, in Germany's case, such a joke that NATO won't even allow them in combat situations, and, in Japan's case, explicitly forbidden by their constitution to go to war.

I knew the first and second things you said, some of the rest provides further enlightenment. I was aware of pacifism being in Japan's constitutions.
Republican's are kind of like some goofy professional wrestle. "The Pubster says this!! We need to beef up the military oh yeah! Fans:You suck Pubster!! We spend more than the next 7 biggest spenders combined! Pubster:The Pubster doesn't care about facts and figures!! Oh Yeah!! Believe it!! We need a strong military defend against ISIS and all the invaders that have never actually attempted to invade us!
I think it's partially the campaign contributions form defense contractors and partially that it's a permanent part of their ideology. Like they wouldn't be Republicans anymore if they didn't say that, whatever the facts. Of course the Democrats always just go along with increased military spending almost every time.

Gay conservatives. Such rare and exotic creatures do exist, although I can't help but wonder if they're all just hardcore contrarians who like to mock society's assumptions. Otherwise, why would they join a movement so set against them? (Other anomalies, like Mia Love, the black Mormon Congresswoman, are similarly inexplicable.) It's hard to imagine a person joining a club that loathes them just because they are still somehow sold on trickledown economics.
To be sure, I don't judge (almost) anyone on their politics. Some just leave me scratching my head a little is all.
