A problem with the word "atheist"

No, you are not paranoid.
Unfortunately there are a lot of fundamentalists that think in that way.
However a lot of theists (especially non religious theists) like me think that atheists will wake up one day and they will reject their fantasy that God doesn't exist so they too will merge into the ocean of bliss.

Have you ever considered that atheism is a dogma in itself?

As far as there is no evidence that God doesn't exist this belief automatically enter the corral of dogma.

In my experience, yes, many people seem to subscribe to that notion.

I typically respond that "I have no religious beliefs." when asked, in an effort to clarify my position.

To me this is just playing with words, and a rather desperate attempt to obfuscate the stunningly obvious. By your reasoning, if someone approaches me with a ridiculous idea and I tell them it's ridiculous, I've adopted a dogma? So be it.

A shorty at work found out I was atheist a few years ago. She asked me if I needed to go to school for that and then asked if that meant I worship Satan. It was cute. I usually just say I don’t have a religion and then I joke that I worship Thor. I don’t hide that I’m atheist, though. It’s not something to be ashamed about. I’m pretty proud to have climbed out of the hole I was in.

How long have you been here? How can you still not understand basic logic, and where the burden of proof lies?

First of all, your post is a straw man. Not all atheists (the majority) make the claim, with absolute certainty, that gods do not exist. We are simply unconvinced by theist's arguments, that they do exist.

Second of all, this type of negative, is impossible to prove.

Third, we do not need evidence that gods do not exist. Theists are the ones making the claim that a god does exist, theists have the burden of proof. Until your claim meets its burden of proof, I am entirely warranted to disbelieve it.

No dogma needed for my position.

Will any of this sink in? I have very little hope it will.
