Well, sure, if you're just a monkey..but the Great Silverback doesn't like it when people touch their anus either...and grabbing a turd cuts it awfully close. Every properly functioning intellect and moral sense understands this to be true.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Ok then, I lose lol. Animals are exactly like us. No difference at all...
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

There is a difference, but it's not qualitative difference. Spectrum, not separate categories.

I never made that type of distinction in the first place. Glad you admit that there's a difference though.
If we did not have moral free will, we would be like the animals.

Some monkeys, otoh, would rather fling shit at the wall and other monkeys because they don't like being "just a monkey". These monkeys pray to the great silverback in the sky, who will beat the living shit out of you if you badtouch your lady bits, or..conversely, if you don't gargle his business night and day.....and in the right way too, the way he likes it.

CL, no one is saying that. They’re just trying to point out that a spectrum exists; that it’s not binary like that.

Of course I agree a spectrum exists lol. I never said otherwise. In fact, I actually said exactly that when I said they can't rationalize in the same way we can. And then clarified it again after Pocas first post.
It's just super annoying because this happens every time. I say something here about us being different from animals in any particular way, and people always come back with these examples of animals doing something. It feels like people are being obtuse on purpose for the sake of arguing and it drives me crazy.

The difference is they are as they are while we are the way we are. But gregarious animals that evolved to live cooperatively are going to have some kind of mutual regard and valuation of others. We may dress that up as heroism and nobility but we just have a flair for the dramatic.

Reread your last sentence. You're arguing for qualitative difference, aren't you?

I'm not saying they are non sentient robots. I'm saying that what they DO have isn't enough to qualify as having moral responsibility, and thus, moral free will. Meaning God isn't going to punish "immoral dogs" for being immoral. They are all morally innocent.
