Police are nowhere near as heavily armed as some of my cousins. The "Big Fifty" (the fifty cousins with the most guns (it's kind of a club)) have >1,500 guns between them right now. On track to break 2,000 by the end of the year. Xmas should do it.

And both bad idea.

What do you define "heavily armed" as being?

Practical solutions are a requirement for this, because like it or not, both sides have many adherents who are absolutely unwilling to compromise. It follows that any start at a solution must address the concerns of both sides.
But if y'all are happy pointing fingers and insulting folks, have at it. Let me know how that works out.

Nor do I think shutting down conversation to be a good course of action. Any possible solution would need to have buy-in from both sides of this discussion. How are you going to achieve that by shutting discussion down? I think it's best that folks speak their views and work towards finding common ground. Perhaps neither side will be thrilled with the outcome, but if it makes headway against the problem, I reckon that's a good thing.
I didn't say it is a complet fix but it will help a lot regarding shootings.
Here is proof.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Romania
Violent crime Edit
Romania differs from many countries in that violent crime is more likely to occur in rural areas than in cities, due to the socioeconomic problems of many parts of the countryside.[1] Such rural areas often suffer from poverty, low level of education of the population, and unemployment. For instance, Romania's Nord-Est development region is one of the poorest areas of the EU.[2]
Another peculiarity of Romania is that gun violence is exceptionally rare [3] due to Romania having some of the strictest gun laws in the world. Most homicides are committed with sharp objects such as axes or knives. Among homicides in 2012, only 2% were by firearms,[3] and among suicides in 2015, only 1% were by firearms.[4] Violent crime was much higher in the 1990s.[4]

But if y'all are happy pointing fingers and insulting folks, have at it. Let me know how that works out. He was just an example that came to mind and nothing was ever achieved through compromise , when someone is wrong , it remains wrong no matter how many people suport him .
I can see your non acusing stance but it's not gona help , certainly not now given that USA laws for guns can barely be called laws.
You are to hasty to defend missguided people just because it should be in their right to do and own what they see fit . This is not democracy my friend , this is blunt ignorance of the outcomes resulted from your so called "laws".
Tell me how does it help this situation to point out that people are violent , in wich way ? Other than arguing more that gun laws should be more strict ?
Yes , " people kill people" so why should we let people have total acces to weapons when they can't stop themself from killing ? Tell me how do you rationalize permisive laws when people can handle themselfs, at the moment, when a lot of people can't comprehend the value of a persons life ?

Body armor doesn't count as arms. Body armor is for protection.

Body armor, protective gear, helps the LEOs go home at night. Rifles, responsive to the gear they're likely to come up against. Not over-the-top by any means.
