I always saw Bajorans in DS9 as nothing but professional victims.

Yes, they had a hard time during the occupation, but it seemed they just loved to milk that for all it was worth.

Two Bajorans I had time for were Ro Laren and the guy who was a legendary war hero but did nothing more than "shoot a naked man".

I can't think of a single Bajoran character that I liked (but part of that is that I've forgotten most of it )... but I guess, though she was a nasty character, it wouldn't have been the same without Louise Fletcher as Kai Winn (Wynn?)... she was perfect for that in a cringeworthy sort of way. And her rivalry with Sisko as Emissary was probably the most interesting part of the Bajoran storyline for me.

When watching Star Trek, I find it interesting when the various alien species make observations/commentaries about humanity, especially comments that challenge humanity's self importance or that indicate humanity's tendency to  interpret reality through a humanistic lens, which often does not have much validity to other lifeforms.  Thus, IMO, such commentary challenges the view that humanity is  the center of the universe and shows how that view can be perceived as conceit and arrogance by other lifeforms.  How can humanity continue to grow and become highly advanced if it closes itself off to the wider reality around it? If humanity considers itself to be advanced, then how would another species, who knows more about reality and is far more advanced than humans, come to view humans? 

P.S. One of my favorite Star Trek episodes is Errand of Mercy, where Kirk, Spock, and Kor encounter the Organians, a non-violent, peaceful people who are unimpressed by the Federation and the Klingon Empire.

Years ago, I read David Gerrold's 'The Making Of Star Trek'.  One of the passages that stuck with me was about a memo the studio circulated to the writers regarding proper names for male Vulcans.  It went something like, 'Using the names of Spock and Sarek as models, names of male Vulcans should all have five letters, starting with S and ending with K.'  There followed a list of names like Satik, Sotok, Selek, etc.

One of the writing staff returned a memo to the studio along the lines of, 'All people who produce science fiction shows for television should have names following the pattern:  Roddenstein, Roddenowicz, Roddenberg....'

Kate Mulgrew as Captain Janeway.  Worst.Acting.Ever.   It's the main obstacle I have to liking Voyager.

Stranding her crew in the Delta Quadrant broke her. Mulgrew's just playing to that.
