Sounds like an expensive way to do what the cow already does.

I doubt it would be that expensive, but it would put a fucking shit load of people out of work.

Expensive relative to letting cow eat grass.

That's not how meat farming works, though. There are way more expenses than just the land you put them on. You know that, though.

I do.
If we add lab grown meat to the list of methodologies, and propose that it will be cheaper than some other item in the list..we have to quantify the costs against each other. Is the cost of the nutrient solution (and it's application) cheaper than pasture or a feedlot? Is the cost of the lab cheaper than the cost of a barbed wire fence and the property contained? Can you staff it at a lower price point than field hands?
I don't want to rule it out forever...I don't know what the cost of all of the conventional stuff will be years and years (and centuries) from now......but, consider me extremely skeptical that anything done in a cutting edge lab with competent techs is going to outperform dust farming field hands and feedlots on the price point anytime soon. We've driven that price real low..it's a pretty steep cliff for lab grown to have to climb.

Neither of us really now what the cost comparison would look like. I'll leave that until they scale up this technology. If it's close enough, I say go for it. I'll need a lot of time before I trust that shit, though.

I think "close enough" is as close as it's likely to get. Like you say, though, that;s as close as it needs to get. We don;t mind paying extra for improved products..we understand that these improvements can have associated costs.
I'd eat it, if it tasted better than meat or I couldn't get meat up to my standards (pointless in my case, I produce it to my standards to begin with). I already eat fishsticks and chicken nuggets and all beef patties...lol, how far off from lab mystery substances can it really be?

However, returning to your op remarks...and in light of this comment, what -are- you talking about? You asked whether or not god could be as "fucked up" as our businessmen. This implies that something about them or their model is fucked up...that they are, in a word..assholes. I think that you and I (and errybodies auntie) would agree that people who treat animals like shit are assholes.
Farm animals situation is precise example of what religion implies humans are compared to God. Believers want to be "farm animals" of God to get magical life extension and that's one of the most insane things I have seen.

My youngest daughter is a vegetarian, and her wife is a vegan.
There are cruelty free meats out there you can buy, though. For those who don't want to fill the wallets of sadistic assholes. Though I wager most people don't give enough of a shit about how some cows are being treated as long as they're being fed.
"Tradition" is just a word people use to make themselves feel better about being an asshole.
