Solution, let us sell them directly to the third world despots, like a Craigslist or something. The gov can approve the buyers list and pay the shipping.

Except retrofit all the wheel guns to look like this-

Ammunition is pretty trivially easy to make at home.

I think on the Australian gun buyback, about a third complied, but it was all voluntary. I doubt that gun rights advocates would mostly keep a few select pieces to themselves, when they cooperated at all.

I don't think the USA could afford to buy back all those firearms at fair market value, though.

It would still cost less than trump’s border wall to buy back 100 million firearms.  By trump’s own tacit admission, the pentagon is overfunded by an amount equal to the cost of the border wall, or thecost of 100 million fire arms, and can afford to forsake that much in order to keep young immigrants out who might otherwise try to enlist.

Btw, I strongly suspect the pentagon can save far more American lives by spending $18 billion buying back private guns than it could ever expect to by investing that in arms, soldiers, or even operations.

Yeah, that's why you have to focus on the problem guns first..which..conveniently, are old handguns....a targeted buyback like that would work for the same reason that criminals use them.

They're cheap.

@Anom....apparently he;s been tossing around the idea of having the military pay for the wall...which...honestly, if we're going to have a wall and overfund "defense"...yeah..sure, go for it.

The thing about this hypothetically is that it doesn't take a high rate of noncompliance to cause major major problems. Even 99.9% of people complied peacefully and .1% of people locked themselves in a cabin and said "from my cold dead hands" you are going to have a way bigger problem then what you are trying to fix.

It's a pointless hypothetical though, because it's not the world we live in, and how many atheist forums people even own assault rifles?

There is not going to be a law that everybody will accept, but hopefully we can come up with a law that slows down the killing somewhat. I don't hope for better in the current political climate.

One doesn't need to own an assault rifle to have an opinion on the weapon.
