Federal Judge rules "No fundamental right to literacy"

So we now live in a country where you are guaranteed the right to buy a murder weapon designed specifically to murder people... but learning to read and write? Well that's not a right at all!
As a teacher, parent, and human being--this makes me want to shake this judge as hard as I possibly can. And this country, for that matter. Literacy should be a fundamental right. But I guess we want really do want to turn America into a third world country.
The whole tone of Church teaching in regard to woman is, to the last degree, contemptuous and degrading. - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Republicunts love 'em stupid. The stupider they are the more likely they are to vote for shithead republicunts. It's all part of the plan to turn 'Murrica into a banana republic. And with climate change happening because these fucktards swear it is a hoax pretty soon we'll be able to grow bananas.

I didn't click on the link, but I'm pretty sure that all children in this country have the right to a Free and Appropriate Public Education, which if I'm not mistaken, includes learning to read. So unless this judge wants some serious backlash, he cannot take away a child's right to learn to read because he would be in violation of IDEA, which is a federal law.

Is "not good readers" even grammatically correct?

In Michigan school attendance is required between the ages of 6 and 16. However, I guess you just have to be there. The fucks don't have to teach you anything.

Oh, and the judge was a Bush appointee.

The judge is in violation of Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"Article 26.
(1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
(2) Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
(3) Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children."

Even an illiterate lawyer should be able to win that case before the old buzzards in the SCOTUS.
A person isn't really educated unless he can read and write at least one language.
Detriot and Chicago are two of the most racist cities in America against blacks. Their intent is to drive all of the blacks out of those cities.

I can't say that I disagree with the ruling. Educational opportunity might be a right, seeing that it is a matter of law. However, we can't elevate everything to the level of a right just because it's desirable.

But it's more than a desire. According to our own constitutional amendments, it is a right of all US citizens. Surely the judge, in all his wisdom, should at least have a basic understanding of the constitution. If not, then he needs to be removed from the bench.

You'll have to cite the specific amendment you're referring to here, as I'm not aware of any such amendment addressing the question. (And while it's been a while, I'm reasonably confident that it's not in the original constitution, from what memory serves.)

As other people have said, I could have sworn people actually did have a fundamental right by law to this stuff. How are you going to hold a job without learning how to read or write? Or do much of anything as an adult? It's not just desirable. It's necessary.
