The last time I was in Australia it was a bitch being upside down.

Butt it looks good on you!

I am not kidding. There have been very few places I have been to in my life that have impressed me as much as Brisbane.

RE: I might be Brisbane bound again..
Here is a poem I wrote when I was in Brisbane this past Feb. It is an Ode to my late friend Bob.

Russell Island, By Brian37(AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and brianrrs37 on twitter)

From the veranda
Overlooking the sloped backyard
To see the beauty
Is not that hard

Mangrove trees
With octopus roots
In low tide
Attack the drying mud

Great pretender
This half moon lagoon
Pretending it is a dry riverbed
In some scorching part of Africa

But no,
It is just a slight indentation
In my friend's back yard
High tide will remind it

Shimmering silverback waters
No you are not Africa
The underlying turqoise
Of the bay will remind you

The calm tide gently creeps in
It wants to sooth the angry roots
Lapping around them as if
They're  photons acting as both particle and wave

Those clever double slit waters
Undulate the shadows of the roots
Swaying and snaking
Under the broccoli branch mangrove

And those chimps
Are not Orangutans
Any which way but loose
They're kookaburras

Lap lap lap
The tide slowly creeps in
A heavy piece of driftwood
Submerges like a navy sub

But it is only temporary
The tide retreats
Those angry roots
Exposed again

RE: I might be Brisbane bound again..
I chickened out..... As soon as I made the decision to go again my anxiety kicked in and I could not sleep at all. I really get terrified of turbulence. I am still going to send my friend though and pay for his ticket there. It will be his birthday present in any case. I only went the first time because Bob's heath and I didn't know if I would see him again.

I got sleep last night finally when I decided to back out. But again, my friend John can sleep on a plane and he'll get to see what I saw and meet Bob's family too. I just freaked out about being a ping pong ball in a jar. John was understanding. John Bob and I were friends since 02.

When I was flying "on business" I occasionally traveled with a guy who was afraid of flying. He once said "Landing is my favorite part of any flight."

To cheer him up I said "You know that's the part where they are trying to hit the ground?"

Landing and takeoffs don't bother me. It is the bouncing around that bothers me. I did notice the local small jet from MB to Charollotte was smooth, if the trip had been like that all the way would have no fear. But the atmosphere over the ocean, and the speed of the jumbo jets produce a bumpy ride.  It was so bad for me at some points I literally thought the plane was going to flip over. I know but still, it is not a sensation can handle, no matter what they say about odds.

After I suggested this trip to John, I literally had the same sensation of falling while lying in bed, two nights no sleep. If I didn't have that anxiety I wouldn't have backed out. But again, I am still going to pay for my friend for his birthday gift if our guest over there is willing to still put him up.

Yea you know, if they could put me in a drug induced coma for the flight. But no, even just the anxiety the past days lying in bed having the residual sensation, I just forgot briefly how terrified I was. The other thing that didn't help on that flight, was going back to the back of the plane and seeing ashtrays, knowing that smoking is banned on all flights.  So on top of bouncing around violently, all I could think was, "Who are the pilots, the Wright Brothers?"
