Government shutdown impacting you yet?

RE: Government shutdown impacting you yet?
I have some family members who are furloughed. But they’ll be alright for the moment. The only other bit is waiting to do my taxes. Which is fine, gives me more time to gather documents, but it does concern me.

I might get bit if SS stops paying me. But I have some depth that I can tap into to keep me in beer money- if I only have one beer a day. Beer Funnel
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

You know, if the shutdown really lasts long enough that nobody gets their tax returns (like Trump has made abundantly clear he’s willing to do) what would be the consequences for tax evasion if nobody Can actually pay their taxes?

I think everyone flying on a plane should give a $1 tip to their TSA agent.

Only $1? TSA agents even outside this shutdown are under tons of pressure, not only to keep us safe, but constantly have to put up with irate passengers who were too stupid to read the restrictions of what is not allowed, and don't give themselves enough time to make their flight, and take it out on the agents whom are just doing their job.

I think the ENTIRE GOP in congress and the President should not get paid and the money saved by not paying the GOP should go to the unpaid TSA agents and Air Traffic controllers.

Got to start somewhere. This would be something individuals could do instead of just watching and bitching.

Don't like the $1, suggest a different amount that most people would be willing to give.

I depend upon food stamps for half my monthly food budget. It's estimated that the USDA only has 64% of what it needs to cover the cost of food stamps in February if the shutdown lasts that long. If they paid everybody at that rate, instead of prioritizing some recipients or something else, that would be a quarter of my monthly food budget. In March it would be half. I could cut out all extra expense and make up that difference, but it wouldn't be easy. Giving up delivery pizza would make up half of it. The other half would have to be made up by eliminating all miscellaneous expenses, like household supplies and such, which is not particularly realistic. There are other areas I could cut back on, but that would result in less time spent in the community doing things. That's certainly doable, though hardly desirable. And I have savings that I can lean back on, but those are very limited due to limits on my assets imposed by the entitlement programs that I make use of.

So, I can survive a shutdown, but it would reduce my usable monthly income by 14% each month starting in March.

I suggest that congress get on the stick and just go ahead and build a wall.

Around Washington, DC.

Maybe with a roof welded on, for good measure.

The new Chernobyl containment building offering inspiration? You can build it in Virginia and slide it on rails over the patomac to cover DC.

I don’t think we have ever in the history of any democratic state encountered a face as eager tie its loathsome visage to the policies of the state, and what a sickening grotesque face it is.
