Believe it or not, the school and the family seem to be telling two very different versions of events, and yes, a comment like "Go back to Africa" would drastically change how I look at the situation, especially from a grown adult to an 11-year-old boy. It only doesn't surprise you or change the story for you because it fits the narrative that you wanted it to fit.
