Its pretty normal in Portugal to breastfeed. Sometimes at the coffee shop you see a woman nursing if the baby is hungry. My wife had to stop at 6 months because she got ill and the medication wasn't compatible. Besides, while endearing to the mother, it is no easy task as the baby suckling makes painfull cracks in the nipples and when they start having teeth, even worse. But it is well proven that is beneficial to the baby, not only because of the nutrients and immunization aspects, but also for the bonding and emotional calm it provides to the child.
Funny, a woman at the beach with nothing but a bikini triangle covering the nipples its ok, but a baby using boobies for their primary purpose, the horror, the horror!
