It's not the same government. The government responsible for slavery in America is the British government, as we were British colonies when slavery was instituted. The colonies didn't abolish slavery when they instituted their own government, which was stupid, but it took less than a lifetime to do so. Edit: Stupid is the wrong word. It was inhumane, probably even monstrous.
Moreover, none of those men are still alive, so I can't see how it's the same government. 1.I already addressed this point above .I think the confusion comes from my use of the word America what I should say is the United States . When The US became it's own country it inherited the responsibility for sustaining slavery laws in the United States and weather the US got ride of it a generation later or not doesn't take away the responsibility . Lastly it doesn't matter if it's the same men or even the same parties it's the same government entity .

Which is irrelevant to the fact they bought the slaves

Blacks, and other people historically or currently enslaved, should blame the sellers and the buyers. Those individuals are the only folks to blame. You don't spot a slaver by color. You spot them by their possession/distribution of slaves only. They learned where they could get slaves. The markets in Africa were already there.

My point is that no one should blame black or white people. They should blame slavers.

Do we dare mention the race of the slavers?
I did a semester on the USN efforts to interdict the slave trade from Africa when I was in grad school. This is an interesting read on the whole topic. https://www.amazon.com/SLAVE-TRADE-STORY...0684835657

Been doing a little reading on this (I confess to not having known much about it). It seems that Thos. Jefferson had been pushing to abolish the slave trade since 1770 and managed to get the importation of slaves into the US banned in 1808. Sadly - as with most prohibitions - this Act may have actually increased the slave trade and consequent human smuggling (slavers would still ply this noxious trade, smuggling human cargo into the US via Florida, which wasn't a state at the time).
Slave trading became a capital offense in the US as early as the 1820s (when it was equated to piracy), but very few people were tried and only one executed.
While it is true that precious little was done about the issue of chattel slavery within the US itself, the idea that the US did nothing at all about slavery appears to be a false one.

The study I did on the US showed that per capita the USN ships on interdiction patrol were as effective as the Royal Navy.

Boru And before 1770 they did and as you point out internal slavery was still a thing

Was the interdiction conducted along the US coasts? Not disputing what you're saying, but I'm given to understand that after about 1810, the majority of slaves were brought to the US via Florida and Texas, where the US had no authority at that time.

That doesn't actually absolve the US government of anything, though.
Nor does it make Africans complicit in the truly sickening shit slaves experienced after reaching America's glorious shores, or the US government's continuous engagement in explicitly racist actions well into the 20th century. Government-sanctioned redlining only officially "ended" around 50 years ago.

Thanks for the flip-side.
