Texas shootings: Random gun attacks leave five dead

At least five people have been killed and many more injured in the second mass shooting in the US state of Texas in a month.

Proves that guns keep you safe.

I should really add more rules to my "Living In America" drinking game.

Here's what I got so far:

Take a shot when:

• A mass shooting happens that kills four people.
  
• An innocent black person is shot by law enforcement and they get off scot-free
  
• People with the power to potentially hold Trump accountable for his misdeeds heavily imply that they consider him above the law.
  
• Yet another person accuses Trump of sexual misconduct.
  
• Trump fires yet another cabinet member.
  
• When Trump FINALLY leaves the Oval Office, take an extra shot for every cabinet official who's actually managed to survive the purges until 46's Inauguration Day. (At this point, the count is currently seven, in order of the line of succession: Steven Mnuchin, Sonny Perdue, Wilbur Ross, Ben Carson, Elaine Chao, Rick Perry, Betsy DeVos). 
  

Down the entire bottle if:

• Two mass shootings that kill four people apiece happen within 24 hours of each other.
  
• People with the power to potentially hold Trump accountable for his misdeeds outright state that they consider him above the law.
  
• Trump actually leaves office early. If Mike Pence is taken out before he can appoint his own VP and Nancy Pelosi ends up the President, drive to the brewery/distillery that made your booze and drink the entire contents of the factory.
  
• Trump ends up roundly defeated on Election Day and refuses to leave office, or even calls off the election altogether. You will fucking need it.
  

Take a sip when:

• Trump says or tweets something blatantly factually wrong or absolutely absurd.
  
• Trump himself implies or outright states that he considers himself above the law.

Also, I heard on the news that Texas was in the process of loosening its gun laws between the El Paso shooting and this one. And between this and listening to the Last Podcast on the Left taking on Columbine and making the crucial point that, if anything, gun laws are more likely to loosen in the aftermath of major tragedies, the whole “government elaborately faking mass shootings so they can take away our guns” narrative makes even less sense. Thank Jah the “crisis actors” meme seems to have died out in recent years.

Also, I heard on the news that Texas was in the process of loosening its gun laws between the El Paso shooting and this one. And between this and listening to the Last Podcast on the Left taking on Columbine and making the crucial point that, if anything, gun laws are more likely to loosen in the aftermath of major tragedies, the whole “government elaborately faking mass shootings so they can take away our guns” narrative makes even less sense. Thank Jah the “crisis actors” meme seems to have died out in recent years.

It all depends on what you define as loosen. These are what the bills in Texas did:

Allow licensed handgun owners to carry weapons in places of worship, including churches and synagogues.

Ban landlords and homeowners from prohibiting tenants to own, carry and transport guns on their property.

Prevent school districts from prohibiting licensed gun owners — including school employees — from storing guns and ammunition in school parking lots as long as it is not in plain view.

Allow foster homes to store firearms.

Prevent citizens for being charged for carrying a handgun without a license while evacuating or returning to a declared disaster zone.

Allow disaster shelters to take in evacuees who have guns.

Allow schools to have more armed marshals on campus.

Defend licensed gun owners who unknowingly enter designated gun-free zones as long as they leave after being told about the policy.

Texas also approved a $1 million statewide campaign for safe gun storage, which will begin within the next year.

Some think that allowing registered gun owners to have a gun in a public place such as a church will keep a mass shooter from killing more people than they would have. Why should the government prohibit a person from protecting their family in a public place? The problem seems to me to be one of access and the inability to prevent someone from having a gun that we just think may be dangerous. I also think that if the gun control side wants to restrict guns in public places the 2nd amendment needs to be revised.

We do know that prayers do not work so we should move on from that.

All that depends on humans being better at being responsible gun owners than they already are, without providing incentive to do so.

I tend to agree.  I don't think there is any way to stop a person from obtaining a gun and shooting others if they want to.  Doesn't it make sense then for people to be able to defend themselves in public with a gun?  

What incentives would stop a person from killing others?
