Rifles are the smallest section of the "danger to public safety" - (handguns are used more in crimes and suicide than any class of firearm) and the AR-15 (in .223) is one of the LEAST powerful rifles. (When first issued soldiers called them "mouse guns" for their lack of ballistic energy)
