Should poor people have kids?

Should poor people have kids?
I’m so annoyed. My no good cousin is pregnant AGAIN. She’s never had any decent life, and she constantly complains about being poor but has dropped out every program set up to help her or gotten kicked out for acting like every day of her life is World Star/ Jerry Springer. I can barely help myself why should I help her too? Especially when she’s not even trying! So something people don’t really wanna hear: If you can’t afford kids don’t have them. I’m not talking about people who fell on hard times or those who didn’t have a choice (rape). Or even people who took precautions and got pregnant anyway. I’m talking about those people who grew up poor and know the struggle but got pregnant anyways. I’m talking the family that has 3-5 kids and is beneath the poverty line. That’s so fucking selfish. If you know what it’s like to be without why would you dream of making your children suffer the same? Like seriously explain because I’m confounded.

I don't think people who are unfit for any reason (not just poverty) should have kids.  But I'm not sure it's preventable.

Well, you have the decided advantage of not being a self-absorbed idiot.  But there are always going to be enough unfit people who continue to pound out kids when they have no business doing so that this appears to be an ultimately insoluble problem.

Is your child well cared for?  Got everything it needs?  Safe?  Warm?  Fed?  Loved?  Then deafness doesn't make people unfit parents.

I think the issue here is people who are financially and/or emotionally not suited to having children but continue to do so.

If your kid is safe and well provided for then there’s no problem. Disability doesn’t make an unfit parent.

You tell her that, and her fear of not being a good mother. Well, I stood by her while squeezing the child. she is well taken for, healthy, not rich, but with happiness. Don't be afraid, while being a dad is easier than being a mom, to hear her saying that dad is her best friend, just about brings a tear in my old sorrow eyes. And my wife is the best person I ever met, despite the fact that I have to yell at her a lot.

Also, people with disability fear their children have the same dsability, I remember my wife so afraid our daughter had deafness. She does not and she is the morning star of our lives. I for one wonder how the fuck I could create such a cute thing Big Grin

There was a time, in the not so distant past, when there were efforts being made in the US to prevent deaf people from having children.  There was even a plan to prevent them from marrying and the idea of forced sterilization was even floated.

Of course, deaf people can raise children just fine.  I took a course on Deaf Culture and was shocked to learn the above things.  I had no idea this was a thing.

As for being poor - that's sort of subjective.  How poor is too poor?  There is the possibility that fortunes will change.  If you can provide the basics and are a loving parent then I am not sure that financial status is the only basis to go on.

I agree that if you can barely keep food on the table or provide other necessities it's probably best to stop breeding.
