I was screaming at both Bernie and Hillary supporters, NOT THE MAJORITY, but a small faction of both, that they needed to scrap their all or nothing bullshit to win, and I brought up SCOTUS back in 15/16 as being equally if not more important than if Bernie or Hillary won. But unfortunately liberals/progressives were too divided, and we lost as a result. And now, predictably SCOTUS is the most important issue especially now.

SCOTUS is important as it was back then. But if you don't win, you don't have the power to change the SCOTUS makeup.

To be fair, if we could do what Mitch did in denying Garland today, I am all for that, but the makeup of the Senate isn't there. They are not the GOP of Nixon's time and all they are concerned about is keeping power. Our only shot now is voting Trump out of office in November.

Looks is more important in the minds of many democrats that it is in reality.    The looks can be sculpted.   The democrats use to even be better at sculpting it.  I suspect some of these democrats aren’t even really that genuinely concerned with the looks.   Their outward concern is just good disguise for Their fear of decisive action.

The right have their own internal political divisions, but, as you note, that doesn't extend to their parties idea of the best way to play the game.  I don't think that the dems would all have to come together and sing kumbayah any more than the r's have.  Ultimately, they don't have to come together at all, their internal divisions and incompetence at-play will only push the date.  Time and demographics are on their side, but I hope they don't expect a pat on the back when the american right finally (and literally) dies off.  

When we accept the american right for what it is, the great replacement theory as their driving sales pitch, the child judges and insane grift and concentration camps are all rational (if detestable) plays.  It provides context for their ability to have internal divisions aplenty and set them aside.  They have rightly surmised that they are dealing with an existential crisis.  

Dems don't appear to be playing that game at all.  They already missed the chance to put their shitty uncle down before he went rabid, and their new (old) idea is to politely ask their rabid uncle if he wants to put a toe or maybe an entire booted foot in their tent.
