The Death Penalty - are you for or against it and why?
RE: The Death Penalty - are you for or against it and why?
See, I probably would kill him. I'd deserve incarceration for it but hey, pick your battles right?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I want all criminals to be put in Arkham City.

El, I hate to tell you-er, no I don't: My stance is built out of experience, and it hasn't changed for twenty years. Flip flopping is for those with high ideals and no experience, patronization be damned.

Then hear it from me, who has dealt such "human trash" that you're referring to... including myself and people I've dated and people I've known. Not even remarking about the simulations I've been through regarding the matters at hand (you call them video games and imagination. Presentation is 95% of everything you feel.)

I do comfort a rape victim (my girlfriend). I also comfort myself. I might kill him, I might not: presentation is 95% of everything you feel. I might even fall to the ground a broken mess, not able to help at all. I would probably cry regardless, and I would certainly cry later. Epi: stop being a fucking asshole who thinks one has to experience something horrible to know what they'd probably do when it happens. You are not them... and your experiences do not make you THE almighty expert. Other people are not you... you are nobody to tell them what to do... nor are you someone to tell them that everything they've been through isn't worth squat because they haven't been through the same things you have. And I don't believe in human trash... even serial rapists can have a place in society. That doesn't make what they do 'good'... but don't suggest that anyone who's raped, molested, murdered, stolen, etc is automatically a continuing danger to society, or must be removed for the 'crimes' they've committed.

Serial rapists, serial murderers, Sae, so yes, I do suggest that such people will automatically be a threat to society and are not rehabilitable. It really is that simple: They offer nothing and take everything.

Eg.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wayne_Gacy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Ridgway

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Fish

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._H._Holmes

It isn't much to give considering what they took, but each of these men gave at least something back to society... whether it was a good husband or a drugstore or a light politician.

From wiki 'He admitted in his autobiography to beating his young wife, and indulging in carnal pleasures out of lust, jealousy and possessiveness, not genuine love. He had eaten meat, smoked a cigarette, and almost visited a prostitute. It was only after much personal turmoil and repeated failures that Gandhi developed his philosophy.'

Certainly we could convict thousands of leaders of mass murder and other crimes (many of association and accomplice)... for wars and for committing crimes that for lesser men and women would have seen them executed or incarcerated.

Everyone can give to a society. Crimes and capacity to give to others are neither related nor correlated.

I'd take issue with the "almost visited a prostitute". I have a much more likely account of events..lol. I love it when people flirt with indescretion so coyly in their autobiographies. They want the cred, but not the stigma. I grant them both. A young, whore-chasing Gandhi is too good to pass up.
(off topic I know)

I don't like ghandi because he preaches honesty when he is not honest Smile

I wish that people would be completely honest in their autobiographies... what's the point of them otherwise? Undecided

So I count MORE patronising bullshit, and then an absurd misrepresentation of my position. Did I say or even remotely imply that I wouldn't react with anger if I came across something happening in front of me? And by the way, it wouldn't need to be 'my girl' for me to react, either.

The above seems to suggest you can't see the difference between defending someone you love and reacting AT THE TIME, and the premeditated, state sponsored execution of a criminal. I'm actually a little offended by your reply Epi, because it tells me you think I'm a simpleton who couldn't see through your ridiculous fallacy and attempt to portray me as some emotionless robot. Have another go.

Hypothetically speaking, if everyone abolished the death penalty there would likely still be crimes and criminals that made us regret the decision. Similarly those of us who view the death penalty in a favorable light can see how it doesn't quite work as intended in every case. Maybe a middle road. Death for crimes against humanity, imprisonment for the rest. (Two birds one stone...this way we get to execute politicians exclusively).

I jest.
