Local woman says only way she has survived during COVID is faith
November 10, 2020 at 2:43 am
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share my view on a local new story done in my region. A woman, lost her mother and brother in law to COVID. She stated at the end of the story the only way she has stayed positive is through her faith. It's sad that people have to deal with loss to this stuff, but to say your last strain of hope is because of faith, I think is strange. During these times, I'm still the most puzzled about ho people of faith, can even bother with faith. To me, to you guys I think you would agree, I'm surprised the COVID thing, isn't the waking up point for people of faith, to like, you know what all religion is horrible and if God did exist, he sure wouldn't care about people. Why, do you think people turn to faith as their last hope in life?
For myself, what makes the Atheist community and especially this forum, is how great it is to always come here and share with all of you and be around other Atheists. Hope, everyone is doing well and safe.

(bold mine)
Why do you assume faith is "[...] their last hope in life"? I have my reasons, I'd like to hear your reasoning ... and this is a question coming from an apostate of the Christian flavor.
Thanks for the well wishes, likewise towards ya Tomatoshadow2. And as an addendum, as you follow the forum rules on AF.org you'll be fine. Another forum, that shall not be named, are a bunch of censorious bunch controlling the narrative and specifically any possible hint at critique of their narrative. They keep a tight ship, but it's held together by stretched rubber bands and gaffa tape, which is ironically hilarious since they got such huge amount of active members. I wouldn't be surprised if the mod to regular poster ratio over there was something like 5 : 1

@ Sal For me, I think people of faith, don't want to think, when they reach the end, that life had meaning, because they had faith. I've always wondered why people of faith put so much hope into at the end of life on Earth, they are going to something greater. I think Atheism especially helps us understand, how strong we can be without faith, when we face challenges. I think people of faith are turning to their faith, because they need something to remind them why they have faith.
I've always enjoyed my time here at AF. I'm not sure of the site you are referencing, if it is the one I'm thinking of, I've not had any issues over there. I haven't thought of those issues for the other site, until you brought it up.

Faith and hope have never been a construct of religion(s). They are just as much a part of the human condition as fear and greed.
The world is going through a tough time... Do you really feel now is a good time to mock those who don't have a hell of a lot going for them...
Please be more empathetic... (and become a better human being in the process)

I don't see how she can know it's her religious faith which "kept her alive" and not, for example, the support of friends, family and healthcare professionals...did she think, like, "Suicide! YES!! Ah no, God, therefore I should live on because...er..." I mean really, eh?!

If the religious get hope thru their faith it's no skin off my teeth. If they need the mental crutch they are welcome to it.
Just don't expect me to validate it as rational. Hope and faith in the supernatural is delusion. I don't need to hear about it or accept it.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

My father started his own business in 1959 and busted his ass making it a success for at least 40 years. He didn't retire until the age of 79 and died only a year later. His estate was worth between five and six million dollars at the time of his death. I was always put off by his insistence that his success was due to his unwavering faith and devotion to "the Almighty."
