As far as I'm concerned, the world behaves exactly as I expect it to behave if there is no omnibenevolent, omnipotent, omniscient god(s) watching over it.

It doesn't mean that God is listening to you or that God is answering prayers or that God even exists. It means that you have a (for you) positive mental attitude, and it's pretty much beyond debate that such an attitude is helpful during times of crisis, such as losing loved ones. (bold mine) If you use it correctly, then perhaps. Most of the time it's bullshit, and merely a placebo effect. But this placebo effect, you can just as well get by doing something real, and not bullshit yourself with faith. No faith needed, actually. E.g. If ya need something a magic hat gives you while playing poker - then drop the hat - and try and play poker pretending that you're wearing a hat, picturing that you're actually wearing a magic hat ... that's when the magic happens. What differences does this magic hat do, when all you're missing is confidence in your ability to play poker? It got shit-all to do with the hat, and everything to do with how you're playing poker with false pretenses. That's faith.

Faith with a child is harmless. With an adult, less so.

We can tell this because healthy people are dying but no so healthy people are alive. It all depends on chance in the natural. Loving God and believing in him helps but it doesnt bring certainty. You can make all the right moves and still die. At least God can give a larger success rate. What an evil god image you worship. So your god image is just murdering people left and right at random? And even if ya worship this god image, you still might get the bullet, just less chance at that? You're worshipping a mafioso. I'd cook the books just to piss of your god image/mafioso.

@Prycejosh1987 God doesn't do shit, it's all made up stuff, biggest fairy tale ever told.
@Gawdzilla Sama Yes I just saw that, sorry for the confusion. @Eleven Still very disappointing to see children brought into bullshit that is religion. Yes it is very scary when religion is in the hand of adults. RE: Local woman says only way she has survived during COVID is faith

The interesting question is why religion has served as such successful grease in that endeavor. Gave us profiles to swipe one way or another on. Providing cultural ornamentation, long term mating solutions, child rearing strategies, signaling cues....... Sexual dimorphism in human behavior tells us that amongst a group of men wearing crosses and selected for that fact, that the man wearing the most expensive cross will get more interest from females. Just that one thing suggests to the female that there is some commonality between them, and that this male is of higher status than the others. Similarly, a male seeing a catholic schoolgirl's plaid skirt in a group of otherwise pantsed females might expect submissiveness and availability. As for the OPQ, it's not surprising when people turn to faith for hope, especially when faith is all they have left to lean on. I'm guessing this person couldn't be jetted off to the best hospital to receive experimental treatment. That there was nothing that could help in their friends and families medicine cabnets, and nothing they could say did anything to covid. People do it because it makes them feel better, and feeling better - not necessarily being better, is the goal.

When I'm not feeling well, sometimes I might meditate and imagine that I'm on a calm relaxing beach.
It's just me, the sun, the sand and the ocean waves. I imagine that the sun is filling my body with healing energy. I imagine this energy flowing from my arms and legs, inward toward my chest and then to my head. This meditation doesn't heal me. It relaxes me. It focuses my mind on something else. My relaxed body may benefit from the meditation and that is a good thing. As long as a person realizes that it's their imagination at work, then all is good. It's when you think that it's real is where you run into problems.

And ultimately even if one makes it to old age, we all die. The death average worldwide from anything and everything at all ages is an average of 50 to 60 million deaths per year. That is an average of a 500 million deaths every 10 years and a billion deaths every 20 years. That doesn't smack of a magic sky hero at all. |
