Reminds me of a joke I heard once.

"We respect your culture but you must understand, sir, that in my culture, it's acceptable to convict men who kill their daughters for murder and then hang them."

This actually happened during British colonization of India in the context of “Suttee” which used to be a ritual where Hindu widowed women used to be burned alive on pyre of husband’s funeral.

Hindus said it was their culture—the British army officer Charles Napier said hanging those who burn women alive was British culture. That put an end to Suttee.

The Turkish police has just declared that they are going after a Turkish atheist YouTuber for ripping up the Quran during a live stream. He lives in Russia, and they want to request his extradition to Turkey. Turkey is not a free country.

(TLP) chief Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi has died

Rizvi considered himself among the protectors of Khatm-i-Nabuwat and Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, which is part of Pakistan's blasphemy laws.

His persistent championing of the matter earned him the nickname of “blasphemy activist” in religious circles.

Rizvi was among the most prominent leaders to have led the violent three-day protests across the country against the acquittal of Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman whose blasphemy conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2018.

Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri also expressed grief and sorrow on the TLP chief's death. He said "Pakistan has lost a respected religious scholar and true admirer of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)", adding that Rizvi's services for Islam will be remembered for long.

Neha is one of nearly 1,000 girls from religious minorities who are forced to convert to Islam in Pakistan each year, largely to pave the way for marriages that are under the legal age and non-consensual. Human rights activists say the practice has accelerated during lockdowns against the coronavirus, when girls are out of school and more visible, bride traffickers are more active on the Internet and families are more in debt.

The U.S. State Department this month declared Pakistan “a country of particular concern” for violations of religious freedoms — a designation the Pakistani government rejects. The declaration was based in part on an appraisal by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom that underage girls in the minority Hindu, Christian, and Sikh communities were “kidnapped for forced conversion to Islam… forcibly married and subjected to rape.”

Forced conversions thrive unchecked on a money-making web that involves Islamic clerics who solemnize the marriages, magistrates who legalize the unions and corrupt local police who aid the culprits by refusing to investigate or sabotaging investigations, say child protection activists.

The goal is to secure virginal brides rather than to seek new converts to Islam. Minorities make up just 3.6 percent of Pakistan’s 220 million people and often are the target of discrimination. Those who report forced conversions, for example, can be targeted with charges of blasphemy.
